New York AU: Policeman's ball

When Dilan knocks on Aya's door to pick her up he's dressed up. Which, in his case, means geta and tabi, silk hakama, and dress kimono. He looks good but very. Very not. Er.

He looks very good. He's got a small box under one arm, and waits for her to open the door.

"I, Dilan, the man who is dating the woman who you are trying to pick up and has been for several months, will in fact tell your mommy on you." his normally warm blue eyes are cold and hard, "Go."

"Just...who...the hell...?" Charles managed to get through the building anger. Yes, under normal circumstances he'd recognize the name but...months. Aya had been dating for months. That was not right. Not when he'd planned so carefully. "You should have told me, Aya!" far safer to switch his attention back to the girl right? Right.

Aya let her head lean against Dilan's chest and seriously considering using him as a wall for further head banging. Just...what the hell? "It wasn't your business Charles."

"Dilan." he says simply, "I am Dr. Dilan. You really are a spoiled little monkey, aren't you? Leave Lt. Brea alone."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I was just trying to.." he started hotly, not exactly sure where he was going with it but then there were insults! "What?!"

Aya couldn't help the laugh that bubbled up then, but she could make sure that it was smothered in Dilan's shoulder? She did reach up to lay her fingers along his lips though. If he kept talking she was going to end up completely insulting one, if not more, of their supporters. And where the hell was thew Chief when she needed him? Intervention was a good idea...

Dilan kisses her fingers and says, "It really is alright, love. I know his mother." he doesn't add that he dated Charles' mother in a brief pre-marriage fling of hers, but will not hesitate to use it later if he must.

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'll give her your regards" Charles offered coldly. His mother rarely came to this particular event. Something about being outnumbered...but it was another opening "And my mother had hoped to meet you Aya. She was to dine with us before the show."

"Suggest grounding him" Aya barely whispered, best not to have that one overheard. Then? She was thumping her head on his arm.

"Nah. I'll suggest I bring you over to supper." Dilan says, equally quietly, "I dated his mother, back in college. Only for a couple of weeks, but they were a good couple of weeks."

That shut Charles up. His prospective date had been stolen by a man who had dated his mother. Gaping was the term for what he was doing now yes.

Seeing as how Charles was quiet now, Aya stopped thumping her head to smile up at Dilan "Well, that works. I'm sure it'll be a wonderful supper, not one of those stilted, formal things..." if she'd dated Dilan she was probably a real person. She'd worry about the further dating revelations later.

Maybe.

"Nah. She throws great suppers." Dilan says, arm around Aya's waist to, now that Charles is silent, whisk her back into dancing, "She was really nice to a very short fifteen year old fresh out of high school."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Then I'd be really glad to attend. We can lock Charles in a closet should he show up." Aya laughed. "Think she'd be willing to tell me stories of your early college years? I know you would, but she'd have a different view..."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Probably." Dilan says as he glides along to the music, "She was there for some of the more interesting settling-in stages."

[mitochondriaaya]

Aya didn't glide quite as well as Dilan did...but she was smiling and keeping up. It was nice to dance. "Define interesting" she laughed.

"The first time I went to a restaurant that didn't know my people usually eat almost-raw food was one of them. Huge argument about what rare meant."

[mitochondriaaya]

"...where you ever allowed back?" she asked "Or is there actually a restaurant that doesn't grin to see you coming?"

"It got straightened out eventually." Dilan says shamelessly, "But it was funny."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hmmm, I don't have anything like that from my college days." she admitted, flashing a grin and a head tilt towards the Chief who'd finally taken Charles in hand at the edges of the dance floor. "Just groups who thought it hilarious to chew out waiters who assumed I could drink."

He just grins slightly, and doesn't tell the cop that he was drinking at fourteen.

Not like it was heavy drinking.

"I was in a class with Braig."

[mitochondriaaya]

Lots of people were drinking before she was. She knew and accepted this fact. "I'm surprised your college is still standing."

[sliceitwithwind]

"We kept the property damage down." Dilan assures her, "Some of the clubs won't ever be the same."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Obviously" she noted dryly about the property damage. It would have been in his police record! "Forever changed in a good way I hope?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"...Mostly." He's not blushing. Really. His cheeks are hot.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Mostly...?" she paused in the dancing to look up at his face. Well, it was only suppose to be a moment. Yes, this would be her reaching up to lay a hand n his cheek and laugh.

He leans his head into her hand and smiles softly.

He had moments when she'd just look over and realize he was fun. Or adorable. And yeah, this was one of those moments with a little bit of both. He was blushing! A man who blushed. Jesus she was a lucky girl.

"You..." she grinned and patted his cheek "You come back for another dance alright? I think there's a few older ladies who want to cut in for a little bit. And I should ride herd on a few of the shier precinct boys."

"Argh. You take the old ladies, I'll dance with the shy cops?" he counter-offers.
