Kiddie AU - Eyes and scars

Aya was the emergency contact on both men's files, which is why she was the one called after they were brought in. Nobody had sorted out what, exactly, had happened although the word riot was used more than once.

The hospital staff didn't really care, they had fifteen people in need of being patched up, and four in need of surgery. By the time Aya got there, her boys had been in the surgery rooms for over an hour, and they weren't sure how much longer it would take.

Elcy was in the waiting room, white as a sheet and gripping her husband's hand as though letting go would mean letting her children go.

"...My eye?" What. No, what. Really. His hand came up, "Gone?" There was some begging in his voice, begging that she was joking, that he'd be fine, that she was getting back at him for something. "No. Dilan's going to be okay?"

She caught his wrist when she started worrying about him touching the bandages too much. "Yes, lemur." She was shaking. A fine trembling in her hand holding onto him. Her voice was as calm as she manage though. Just...calm. She'd choke up if she spoke too much more though.

"He'll be okay. You'll be okay. Both of you in time. Just...still."

He closed his remaining eye and half collapsed back onto the bed. A low sound, something as angry as it was hurt, while he tried to parse the fact that he'd lost an eye. His mind wouldn't focus on it; he kept getting bits of it and then shying away. He didn't have an eye. He was going to be ugly now. He didn't have an eye. How was he going to shoot? He didn't have an eye. What if that would keep Aya and Dilan from ever loving him?

"I love you." he finally mumbled.

Elements, that noise hurt almost as much as seeing the boys tonight. "Hey, hey, Lemur, I'm right here. Dilan's right here. We love you too and it'll be alright. Just..." oh please stop that noise.

"Here, put your other hand out and you'll touch Dilan's arm. We pushed the beds together."

Braig turned his head so that he could see Dilan (and he'd always have to do that now, he'd never be able to look at them from his peripheral vision when they were on either side of him) and then he reached out with his other hand (full of needles and tubes) to grip Dilan's hand as well as Aya's.

"He's so pale." Don't think about the eye. Don't think about the eye.

That just meant that he'd have to trust them on his blind side. They'd watch it for him.

"Yeah, they're getting fluids into him, and they got some of his donated blood in from the other hospital too, but it'll take a while for him to regain color you know? Pain and hurt do that."

"Yeah. He can be kinda a wimp with pain." Braig started struggling back to a seated position, trying to get a good look at Dilan's bandages. "Fuck, man, how much internal damage does he have? Will he recover fully?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"If you sit up I will KICK YOU IN THE HEAD Braig." Because fuck if he was allowed to hurt himself more. "I'll read his file to you if it'll make you feel better. Just stay down."

He blinked at her and flattened again, "Okay. Read to me. My eye, really? Like, really-really?"

"You are HURT. Your eye, yes, really, but also OTHER PARTS and you are NOT ALLOWED to put yourself in ICU where we can't be there!" This was as close to yelling at him as she'd get for right now because if she started screaming she'd stress scream forever.

That said she hitched herself up onto the foot of the bed so she could stretch her leg across the boys ankles. That way she could touch and still have her hands for snagging Dilan's file off the folder at the foot of his bed! As long as Braig wasn't going to complain about her crying as she read they'd get through it.

He was going to fret about the tears! A lot! But he wasn't going to stop her as long as she thought she could get through it. He didn't last the whole thing, though, before he finally said, "Can you find that painkiller button, babe? I can't think for hurting."

Admittedly, she was going to get through this whole ordeal based on the sheer belief that if she so much as blinked they'd get worse on her so...

...yeah, she could get through it.

"Oh, oh right. Yes. Just...hang on." she was in the suggested treatment course part anyway. It mainly said 'rest' with some painkiller and appropriate antibiotics included but hey. "There, it fell into a fold of the blanket..." she found it by tracing the wire from the proper machine!

Braig pushed on it, then reached for her hand again, "Don' go anywhere, okay? I need you to stay here."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Not going any damn where." She promised harshly. "I'll freak if I do, and you guys will freak, and we'll all get sedated and that isn't a good thing for anyone."

"Your arm." Yeah, it took that long, "What happened to your arm?"

[mitochondriaaya]

Well, yeah, cause it wasn't a problem? "Dilan didn't have painkillers when he got in. He was gonna bite the doctor." And he'd have bitten harder if it was a stranger. "Three stitches, we've done worse."

"Oh. Okay." Yeah, Dilan bites were painful, but not nasty. He could live with that. "C'mere and curl up." He's got one side, the blind side, with few enough things sticking into him that he can stick one small blonde under his arm, if she doesn't wiggle too much.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, let me get my shoes off...and pull Dilan's arm across okay? I gotta...you both. Need to know you got pulses okay?" And if she could snuggle against Braig and hold Dilan's hand across Braig's uninjured belly, they should be okay?

"Yeah, okay." Dilan's arm was like a rock, but it moved. Braig breathed quietly while Aya got arranged, then buried his nose in her hair. "Thanks."

Hey, as long she could touch them both everything was okay, rock arms or no. "Don't thank me, you'd do the same. Hell, you'd be here and dangling doctors." Now hush and go to sleep Braig. She was going to get sniffly.
