HALO AU

The briefing room for talking to Spartans was never filled. It didn't take that many, after all, to do...whatever needed to be done. The two scientists at the front, well. They looked like they had at least some field experience. One of them was scarred up and missing an eye, the other one was big enough to be a Spartan, but lacked that...something that marked Katzu Spartans. He was, in so much as one could be, just Katzu. He did, however, show markings of peripheral nerve damage...signs of an attempt at making him a Spartan that failed.

Neither of them moved like paper-pushers, though. They moved like ODST, highly trained but not quite at that level. The taller one exhibited obvious signs of Spartan drug failure, but didn't appear to let that phase him. The smaller one had indications, but nothing as dramatic.

"Well..." Nevada noted after a moment. "That takes some of the fun out of pretending to brag." Just a little.

Aya just snorted and checked his ribs for him.

"Still not apologizing for breaking those plasma towers," Aya noted easily.

"Of course not." Nevada agreed. "And every spartan is watched so, well, at least you're trustworthy?"

"That is not permission!" Aya said to Nevada...at about the same moment he said it to her. Tired laughing? Oh yeah. It'd been a rough day. "Hold still monster, you're a pillow,"

"Pinnacle of my career," Nevada noted dryly.

Nevada settled down as well, watching Dilan work for a bit and making sure the shield they'd set up remained a calm, untroubled blue before finally falling asleep. Aya beat him there by over an hour.

Yeah, it had been a long day.

Aya was awake before the others, given when she'd fallen asleep, and she woke with the standard check of her HUD. Even lacking an AI partner she had a lot of info to process, "we'll need to move within three hours," she noted quietly.

That meant the others could sleep for another two hours. "When will you need to sleep?"

True, they were certainly waking up better than the day had indicated they would! She couldn't help but smile back at the cheerfulness and chuckled, "I'm good for now. We need to check food supplies, run local flora and fauna because feeding two full spartans that are injured, a Katzu, and an Olia, both with some Spartan boosting is going to burn our supplies..." so yeah that was an issue.

If I slip out to scout can you run samples I bring back?"

"Excellent, that will help a great deal. I'll snag samples of any plant or wildlife I encounter, as well as water," because clean water would also be an issue until they managed to get a slipspace capable craft stolen or cobbled together to leave this place.

"If we have to dump the sled, yes, but otherwise it still has a higher weight capacity than you."

"Of course," she smiled slightly, "we all like contingencies." Always. Still, she was thumping Nevada's shoulder to let him know she was leaving of her own accord and sat up to pull her repaired armor on.

"I'll be back in an hour at most, I'll keep channel open though."
