Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"Um." Dilan says, frowning, "There was a breakthrough. Mo-onday?"

Maybe?

"Oh, wait, I caught twenty minutes day before yesterday."

She very carefully sat up, placed her cup on the table, then turned to gently punch his arm. "It is technically Saturday now, Dilan." she stated very, very calmly.

"That's almost a solid week without real rest." and he let her walk them around at two in the fucking morning! "There's something wrong with the world when you're getting less sleep than an understaffed precinct!"

Dilan blinks at her and says, "But we had a breakthrough. That's important. It's what I do."

"So s is having the brains remaining to work on it." she pointed out. "I'm pretty sure your species still requires sleep, often if the insanity plea laws are anything to go by..."

"I was going to sleep last night." Dilan says with a shrug, "I'll sleep from when I get home until Tuesday."

Jesus Christ.

Fucking Hell.

And counting to a hundred in her head.

They all helped to keep her inner ranting inner. Eventually she just reached up to pat his cheek gently "Thank you"

"My people need a lot less sleep than yours." Dilan offers with a shrug.

Fact may be." she agreed "It's still incredibly disconcerting. I like you, therefor, I worry?" she offered.

"What was the project that had a breakthrough?" she asked curiously. A building as large as his had to have several projects going at once...and she would like to know what he was focusing on!

"Not ready to talk about it." Dilan says with an uncomfortable shrug, "Not until it's a little more developed. Health care. Sorry." then he shakes his head, "I promise I'll see about sleeping better."

"Ah, the stuff that might do the thing?" she suggested as an easy avoidance. "I won't ask again." she didn't need to know, so she was more than willing to let it drop. Especially in the face of his discomfort.

"I appreciate that." she liked to know the people around her might stay healthy? "Cops...don't get a lot of sleep. Most of us worry when civilians don't too. Kinda means things are really going down hill."

"Stuff that just isn't ready. Call me superstitious..." Dilan shrugs, "Anyway. I don't get a lot of sleep because my people don't sleep as much as yours."

"Hey, you're talking to a cop who knocks on wood." she allowed easily at the 'superstitious' remark.

"I'll try not to overreact?"

"Thanks, babe." Dilan says, nuzzling her hair companionably.

He can do that.

He's good.

Okay, the hair nuzzling made her blink a moment, then glance up and laugh.

Yeah, it was alright by her.

Sadly, her cell phone chose that moment to go off.

Needless to say, her laughed stopped immediately.

Dilan sits up and starts humming softly under his breath to give her privacy.

She didn't actually answer it. She just sat up and gathered her boxes. "It's Danny" she explained.

"He's outside." her partner had the non-annoying ring tone?

Standing, well, reluctance was the word, but once she was up she leaned across the table to touch his cheek gently "Dilan? Thanks."

Dilan leans into the touch, "Any time, Aya. See you Wednesday."

"Wednesday" she agreed, fingers lingering a moment longer before she headed for the door. It was something to look forward to.

At the door she turned and grinned at him "Sleep!" she called teasingly.

He blows her a kiss, then starts gathering up his own leftovers.
