Aya AU: meeting Cat

Dilan is hanging out near the station, waiting for Aya to get off work. Every now and then his hair makes a semi-disgruntled mrrp? noise. The reason for that is the small black cat who is not in the cat carrier at his feet.

"Hmmm, I try for fair." she chuckled. "This the place?" she asked, nodding a series of outdoor tables near an 'open' sign.

...and were they going to order anything for Cat?

"This is the place." Dilan agrees, ordering a cup of coffee for himself, and a saucer of cream for Cat.

Aya ordered coffee as well and kicked her feet up on the opposite chair so Cat could stalk between seats as it suited her. Kitty bridge!!

Yes, this would be Aya tilting her head to watch the cat walk around.

In general it was quiet, and relaxed, and so many nice, little things. Eventually she remembered to sip her coffee and tilt her head in the other direction to lay on Dilan's arm. "Tell me about your day?" she asked simply.

Dilan grins at her and kisses her hair, "Well we - wait. Um. Just a second." he's obviously figuring out what he can talk about in public.

She laughed at that and glanced up at his face "You can go with vague?" she offered "I worked on a few open cases and growled with Danny a lot. We didn't get much done, so we'll work on it again tomorrow." that was the easiest way to discuss homicide cases outside the precinct?

"We made a couple of strides that are very encouraging, but my pet project is still refusing to cooperate." Dilan says eventually.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Shame on it." she noted. "You don't end up kicking things when pieces aren't falling into place, do you?" she asked easily. "Danny's put quite a dent in his desk..."

He blinks at her for a minute, then says gently, "No, Aya. I don't get violent when I'm frustrated. Or when I'm angry. It's too dangerous."

[mitochondriaaya]

Her smile faded somewhat at the serious turn, but she nodded "Sorry, cops are a violent bunch. It seems normal to ask and tease." she admitted.

"I could really hurt someone." Dilan points out, "And I don't want to do that. I don't even yell."

Aya lived in a world where you had expect everyone to hurt others...but she could see his point. She settled her coffee cup on the table, the better to gather his hand in hers and play with his fingers "I'm sorry" she offered sincerely.

"I won't tease like that again. It'll be weird, not having you yell...but I'll deal."

"When I was a kid I did. But the first time I got pissed after I got my height and started yelling, this guy thought I was going to hit my girlfriend. And - yeah. I never want to see anyone look as terrified as he did when he got between us. So. No more yelling."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Understandable" she admitted, wincing. She knew far too many people who came in damn handy for yelling. Danny among them. But they were usually in situations where yelling was warranted or where people were already justifiably afraid.

"I...can't promise not to yell? I can try not to yell at you though." It wasn't fair, or right, to yell at someone who wouldn't, or couldn't, do the same.

"I don't mind." Dilan says with a shrug, "It's not even an urge anymore."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'd mind." she admitted, shifting from playing with his fingers to simply holding his hand so she could drink her coffee.

"Yelling is one of those things everyone does or doesn't." she shrugged.

"Alright." he says, twisting around in that inhuman way of his to kiss her cheek, then going back to his coffee.

And that made her almost choke on her coffee. Sometimes the way he moved...well, it was surprising, or shocking...or utterly distracting. This would be why the coffee mug was hastily set down so she didn't spill "Jesus...warn a girl..." she laughed.

Well, laughed between coughing.

"Spines shouldn't do that!"

"Human spines shouldn't do that." Dilan counters, "My spine should."

"Yeah yeah yeah" she mock grumped "It's distracting" shame on him. Really!

That didn't mean she didn't sit up enough to kiss his cheek before she started dangling straw wrappers for Cat.

Dilan grins, "That means I get a little of the attention showered on Cat." he points out.

Cat goes nuts for the wrappers, the bell on her collar jingling cheerfully.

...Aya was probably going to leave a 'straw replacement' tip on the table. Yep. Paper wrappers just didn't hold up for more than a few pounces.

At his comment though she arched a eyebrow and grinned "Yes dear, would you like a wrapper too?" she teased, holding one up for him.

"Nah. It's adorable to watch you playing with her."

[mitochondriaaya]

She wrinkled her nose at the comment, but refrained from complaining. Fighting the word 'adorable' had never gotten her anywhere, ever. Instead she sacrificed Dilan's wrapper to Cat, amused at the stunts she pulled to get at the things.

"I promise you'll have my undivided attention when we're swimming?" she chuckled. There wouldn't be a Cat after all!

"Horrified stares at the wet-cat smell." he predicts, mock glumly.

She arched an eyebrow up at him, then tugged one of his dreadlocks gently wit her free hand "Not likely to be horrified." she noted. "Because wet-cat smell or no, you'll be a wet Dilan. I'm sure that's far more note worthy."
