"I'd feel kind of like a little girl who can't dance standing on her father's feet..." she chuckled. "So not the feeling I want around you dear."

"Fair enough, my love, fair enough."

"I try to be" she laughed, squeezing his knee as they pulled up outside the hotel where the ball was being held. "Ready to brave the wolves?"

"Yup. Wolves can't take me down." Dilan says, sliding out and opens the door.

"Not without greater number than should be here..." she teased. She didn't mind that her dress revealed a long line of thigh as she slipped from the limo. She had nice legs, so all was well? The price one had to pay for mobility in evening clothes!

Inside was...well, a party. It was really easy to tell the cops from the guests. They all looked vaguely like they had guns to their head!

Dilan is perfectly capable of looking like he's enjoying himself. He, after all, has Aya.

So there.

Danny latched on to them the moment they made their entrance. He looked utterly uncomfortable in his 'new' suit, as opposed to his 'regular' suit. The only difference between the two was the color, but hey, it was something for him to complain about?

Aya flashed an apologetic smile at Dilan then dragged her partner off to a group of cops in the corner. They'd protect him! That chore done, she drifted back up to his side and sighed "...it's a lot bigger than last time." that was a good thing, maybe?

"Still smaller than the last thing I had to go to." he mutters, "Good day, Senator. Yes, Lt. Brea is looking lovely tonight. No, I have no intention of giving up her arm this evening, toodles."

that was the brushing off of a senator. Dilan has no shame.

"Too much bigger and the cops wouldn't show at all..." Aya covered her smile with her hand, the better not to end up laughing at the rather shocked expression on said senator's face. "I'm attached at the arm?" she noted when they were clear.

"I figure I'm more entertaining than he is." Dilan says, swinging her gently onto the dance floor and grinning down at her, "Also, I have a lot more power."

"You're endlessly entertaining dear." she admitted easily as she rested her hands on his hips "And I never cared about the power angle. Forgive me for dismissing that.' she laughed, amused at how handy it could be in situations like this!

He beams down at her and dances across the floor lightly, "It comes in handy, now and then."

Aya...was a good enough dancer to follow a lead? It was fun anyway, and no one tried to talk to them as long as they were moving! Plus, with Aya and Dilan out on the floor more of the cops were willing to drift out and start taking over the dance floor.

This meant, at the meant, a cop conga line to a waltz, but hey! Yes, many of the people Aya knew were insane.

Dilan doesn't mind. He waltzes her around the conga line joyfully.

There were more than a few startled looks shot in their direction when Aya laughed through the dancing. She was suppose to be the serious one...

...suppose to be.

The smile didn't leave her face until they were off the dance floor and the moneyed lot was pressing between them. It was easy for a short woman like Aya to get walled away by suites, one of which seemed rather eager, in a boyish, fashion plate kinda way. "Aya, Aya! There you are! I've been looking all over! You'll never guess what I got for you..."

Dilan elbows his way back to her and shows a lot of teeth with only the faintest of upwards quirks on his lips. "You must be someone she hasn't bothered to mention, I'm Dilan. Her boyfriend."

The boy (really, he looked younger than Aya) flicked a glance at Dilan but didn't lose an iota of his enthusiasm. Really, Aya wouldn't be dating, not for real, right? "I'm Charles. Tickets to the opera, Aya. I know you like opera, you said so once..."

Aya very carefully stepped back and hooked her arm around Dilan's waist "Charles is Judge Atherton's son." she noted a bit absently.

"That's nice. I'm Ansem's biologist." His teeth bear just a little more and he tugs Aya a hint closer. "I'm afraid that her evening is spoken for."

"I'm sure you're very good at it then." Charles actually rolled his eyes, really. One of Ansem's crew and a NY cop? "Not this evening of course...Christmas Eve actually. Please say yes Aya, they're good seats!"

Aya blinked, utterly floored that Charles was that dense. "No" yeah, she couldn't find the diplomatic response to that.

Dilan's smile drops, completely, and he digs in his sleeve for his wallet. The ID card that he has where most people have their driver's license is one of six, in the world.

"You are going to leave us alone now." his voice is gentle, "Because I have one of your mother's garden party invites on my desk as a tentative yes, but I will not hesitate to decline with a note that I don't think my girlfriend would be comfortable being stalked by her son."

Charles was one of those unfortunate people who flushed oddly when angry. His neck went mottled red and his cheeks flamed, but the rest of his face went pale "What?!" he managed. He'd never been accused of being a stalker in his life and...and..."You..."

Aya had half-turned away, as much as she could with her arm around Dilan...a few moments of emphatic hand signaling and the Chief was wandering over to 'escort' Charles back to his father.

"I, Dilan, the man who is dating the woman who you are trying to pick up and has been for several months, will in fact tell your mommy on you." his normally warm blue eyes are cold and hard, "Go."

"Just...who...the hell...?" Charles managed to get through the building anger. Yes, under normal circumstances he'd recognize the name but...months. Aya had been dating for months. That was not right. Not when he'd planned so carefully. "You should have told me, Aya!" far safer to switch his attention back to the girl right? Right.

Aya let her head lean against Dilan's chest and seriously considering using him as a wall for further head banging. Just...what the hell? "It wasn't your business Charles."

"Dilan." he says simply, "I am Dr. Dilan. You really are a spoiled little monkey, aren't you? Leave Lt. Brea alone."

"I was just trying to.." he started hotly, not exactly sure where he was going with it but then there were insults! "What?!"

Aya couldn't help the laugh that bubbled up then, but she could make sure that it was smothered in Dilan's shoulder? She did reach up to lay her fingers along his lips though. If he kept talking she was going to end up completely insulting one, if not more, of their supporters. And where the hell was thew Chief when she needed him? Intervention was a good idea...
