Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"Sensitive painful?" she asked curiously. And yes, she did reach up to tangle her fingers lightly among the dreads. She didn't even notice when she ended up rolling one between her fingers, testing the texture.

"Hmmm, yep. Far heavier than chopsticks allow for." she mused. That was alright. Maybe she could figure out alternatives later...

"Only if you pull or tug on it. In general they're a major erogenous zone so it would just be awkward on my end if you started playing with them." Dilan says, with a very subtle blush.

She let the dreadlocks slip from her fingers as she took in the blush. Subtle, yes...add in the dark skin and she'd almost missed it, but...she hadn't thought much of anything would make the man blush. "I'll keep that in mind" she promised simply.

"Thanks for the warning." it' wouldn't have been fair to him to accidentally tease tonight...

"No problem." Dilan says, grinning again and shrugging, "Strawberry?"

She eyed her plate and realized she actually was done eating. The rest would be going to the precinct with her for a lunch some time. So, actual meal over, sweet things were alright! "Please"

Dilan holds a strawberry out with chopsticks, smiling at her contently. It's nice to have her here. She's fun to hang out with.

She eyed the chopsticks a moment and realized there was no utensil she could transfer the strawberry to without a great deal of juggling and potentially dropped fruit. So, with a grin, she simply leaned forward enough to accept as graciously as she could.

Fun was nice.

"I should get boxes..." she sighed afterward "Danny will be here soon."

"Probably." Dilan agrees, raising his hand to get a waitress' attention and offering Aya another strawberry.

He makes no apologies for the masculine pleasure at watching her eat from his chopsticks. She does, in fact, have a very pretty mouth.

Another advantage of being out with Dilan was that waitresses noticed him! It was a growing list it seemed...

And if she suspected his attention, well, she didn't seem to mind as she licked the chopsticks clean once more. She did, actually, like strawberries herself. "Wednesday..." she mused once her mouth was no longer full "...where would you like to meet?"

He leans back and thinks about it, "What time do you get off? I can arrive there, and we can take a bus together. It's easier than trying to give directions to somewhere public and hope we see each other."

Okay, he's easy to pick out of a crowd. But she's short.

"It's not so much 'getting off' on Wednesday. I'll have to go home and change out of my dress uniform..." she sighed.

...but damn it Central Park was big.

"Duties should be done by noon?" a time was a start!

"Want to meet me at the labs instead, then?" Dilan offers, not willing to suggest her place, "I'll be there most of the morning anyway, and it's not like extra time will be a problem if you run late."

She tilted her head to the side as she placed locations on her mental map. Yeah, his labs were not ludicrously out of the way. "I'll call if I'm delayed?" she offered.

"And if your grad student is hanging around, you can hand off the cookbook directly." she grinned. Now? She just had to locate a pair of skates before Wednesday.

"Sweet." Dilan says happily, lounging in the booth. The waitress brings boxes over for them, as well as the check.

As long as he was lounging, she was leaning. He had that nice chest to rest against after all! And she was starting to really feel the previous day as she waited for the current cups of coffee to kick in...

"Don't get excited yet...." she warned with a laugh "You'll jinx it." she still had to get through the weekend after all, and not lose his number between now and Wednesday. A little bit of wiggling and she had her credit card out and in the bill folder before negotiations could start.

Dilan doesn't argue. He paid last time, after all - just - "Let me know if you want me to cover my half." it's said without moving so much as a finger toward his wallet. Polite, but not pushy.

"I'm too sleepy to be excited, Aya. I'll do that later. After a nap."

"Nah, I like feeding people" she admitted easily, cradling her final cup of coffee in her hands contentedly.

"Damn, sleepy despite the coffee and fructose? When did you last sleep Dilan?" there was a hint of real worry in the question.

"Um." Dilan says, frowning, "There was a breakthrough. Mo-onday?"

Maybe?

"Oh, wait, I caught twenty minutes day before yesterday."

She very carefully sat up, placed her cup on the table, then turned to gently punch his arm. "It is technically Saturday now, Dilan." she stated very, very calmly.

"That's almost a solid week without real rest." and he let her walk them around at two in the fucking morning! "There's something wrong with the world when you're getting less sleep than an understaffed precinct!"

Dilan blinks at her and says, "But we had a breakthrough. That's important. It's what I do."

"So s is having the brains remaining to work on it." she pointed out. "I'm pretty sure your species still requires sleep, often if the insanity plea laws are anything to go by..."

"I was going to sleep last night." Dilan says with a shrug, "I'll sleep from when I get home until Tuesday."

Jesus Christ.

Fucking Hell.

And counting to a hundred in her head.

They all helped to keep her inner ranting inner. Eventually she just reached up to pat his cheek gently "Thank you"

"My people need a lot less sleep than yours." Dilan offers with a shrug.

Fact may be." she agreed "It's still incredibly disconcerting. I like you, therefor, I worry?" she offered.

"What was the project that had a breakthrough?" she asked curiously. A building as large as his had to have several projects going at once...and she would like to know what he was focusing on!
