Aya AU: meeting Cat

Dilan is hanging out near the station, waiting for Aya to get off work. Every now and then his hair makes a semi-disgruntled mrrp? noise. The reason for that is the small black cat who is not in the cat carrier at his feet.

"I'd need to take Cat home and get my swimsuit." Dilan says, "But I like swimming, if you can put up with the sight of that much body-hair."

"It'd let you escape the potential boredom of waiting." she pointed out. Though Cat going home was a sad, terrible thing. "If you don't mind the travel time."

"I've the feeling I'll survive." she grinned.

"I don't mind, babe." Dilan assures her, "If you'd like, you can come over for supper afterwards. Braig is out at his girl's place tonight."

She nuzzled Cat's fur again as she thought that one over. "We'll see?" she offered at last. "I really need to try to sleep...tomorrow is Saturday." she sighed.

"But if we're not in the pool long I'll probably take you up on the offer."

"Sounds like a plan to me." Dilan says, accepting the possibility of not having her over easily enough. He'd like her to be there, but he only makes any given offer once.

There are some games he doesn't play, the "Will you, won't you" one is one of them.

"Provided all goes well, I'm back up in the real world come late Sunday night?" she offered. "If I can't make it tonight." She wasn't trying to be coy, this weekend just had the potential to be...tricky.

And she'd rather be in one piece and datable for Dilan, even if it meant not dining with him.

"That works." Dilan says, cupping her cheek gently, "I'll just redo my hair Saturday, get that over with for the month, and then if you can make it Sunday I'll be all pretty for you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"One of these months I'll actually get to witness one of these infamous hair washings." she chuckled softly, then turned her head to kiss his palm gently. "Though if you're going through the trouble to be pretty I might have to dress up..."

That'd...well. It'd probably delay dinner until Monday morning. Early. Depending on how rough the weekend was...but she'd do it.

"Any time you want to." Dilan says simply, "It's not that interesting, though. Just lots of time with a pick and wax, usually zoning out to a foreign film."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hmmm, 'want' and 'free to do so' are different things." she sighed. "And boring or not, I'm curious. I'll figure it out sometime." she shrugged and shifted Cat once more before her arm got tired.

"You strange people in the rest of the world who have this 'weekend' thing..."

"Hey - I have weekends when I take them." Dilan says with a shrug, "This week, I get a weekend. When experiments start coming to a head I'll have less free time than you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Even if you only have it occasionally." she amended wryly. "Though with less free time than me...that'd put you practically living at your lab. Ouch."

"Fold-out couch in my office, spare clothing in the desk." Dilan agrees.

She let out a low whistle and lifted Cat to eye level "Your owner is nuts." she informed the feline soberly.

"I can understand necessity...and I'm glad you're not passing out at your desk but..."

"That's why I get the big bucks." Dilan says, kissing her cheek.

"Mrrrp!"

[mitochondriaaya]

"And when you do end up living at your lab can you have visitors?" she asked curiously, settling Cat back against her shoulder "Or do we all get to stay out of the way?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"I take half an hour three times a day to eat, no matter what." Dilan says (his secretary scares him to death. She's got six children, and isn't afraid to mother.) "People who want to see me can drop in for them. Six in the morning, noon, and six at evening."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Six, noon, six." she repeated, just to set them in memory. "How long do these bouts of living at the lab usually last?" she asked. Yes, she was planning for the future. After all, it was only fair. He came to see her when she was free!

Dilan coughs, looks awkward, and says, "No more than a month."

[mitochondriaaya]

Aya is staring at you Dilan. Just...staring.

And petting Cat.






"Yeah. I can work with those times, even if I only manage on my day off." she sighed.

[sliceitwithwind]

"That happens about every other year?" Dilan offers, "Sorry."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, you put up with my job." she pointed out at last. "I can deal with occasional insanity from yours." Still...a month. Christ.

[sliceitwithwind]

"Very occasional, I promise." he says, hand over his heart.

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'll hold you to that." she muttered darkly to Cat's ears. What? They were fuzzy, and there at lip level! "Though if starting occurring too often, with such duration, I could arrange a kidnapping..."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Promise." Dilan swears, hand on his heart, "It takes several things coming to a head at the same time for it to even be a possibility."
