Kiddie AU - Eyes and scars

Aya was the emergency contact on both men's files, which is why she was the one called after they were brought in. Nobody had sorted out what, exactly, had happened although the word riot was used more than once.

The hospital staff didn't really care, they had fifteen people in need of being patched up, and four in need of surgery. By the time Aya got there, her boys had been in the surgery rooms for over an hour, and they weren't sure how much longer it would take.

Elcy was in the waiting room, white as a sheet and gripping her husband's hand as though letting go would mean letting her children go.

"Alive." Yinsi said, holding his free arm out to her, "Braig lost an eye. Dilan's got some pretty bad internal damage. They aren't letting us in yet." He looked wounded himself, like he was about to break apart.

"I'm glad you're here." Elcy's voice was barely a whisper, "I'm glad you're here, Aya."

"An eye?!" She yelped, swaying, then clutching at Yinsi's arm for support. All the better to lean into the adult couple. "They need to let us in! Dilan can't have most the sedatives! He'll need someone he knows nearby! And Braig..." they had to be there.

There was a distant roar from one of the surgery rooms, and then a doctor came out, "What can we give him to calm him down?!" he asked the trio, "He woke up and he's attacking people!"

"Oh, God." Elcy stood, still gripping Yinsi, "Do you have any..."

"No. We don't."

"On it!" Aya squeezed Yinsi's arm then dashed past the doctor and through the door he'd emerged from. "DILAN STOP IT!" She couldn't give any drugs or anything but she could offer a voice he knew, in a tone he knew...

...and in extreme circumstance stick her arm between him and any doctor he was snapping at.

It was a way to help.

He froze when he tasted her arm...and her blood. A little bit of sense came back into his eyes and he whimpered, "Aya? Hurts..." before one of the doctors moved closer.

"I need to finish stitching him up. Can you keep him calm? Otherwise he may die."

Aya shot the doctor a look, then nodded. "I know, shhh, it's okay. You got hurt kitten, and the doctors have to stitch you up." She was ignoring the bite for now. It wasn't bad after all. "I'm gonna hold your head okay? I'm right here." And she did just that, laying her hands along his cheeks and leaning forward so her hair fell around him. A curtain against the world, as much as she was able to offer anyway.

Dilan's eyes stayed fastened on her, wincing but not closing all the way, as the doctor carefully went about stitching together things from the inside out. It was...excruciating. For everyone involved.

Someone else came in to scrub Aya down to minimize infection possibility from her being in the room during it all.

Once it was done the doctor said, "We'll take him up to a room now. Will you tell his, er, parents?"

She stayed watching him, wincing whenever he did but not leaving. She didn't even really wince when she got scrubbed down and tied into a gown. It was necessary after all. "Kitten? I can stay if you want." It would be up to him if she dashed off long enough to tell Elcy and Yinsi.

Else-wise she'd pace his bed on the way up.

"Le' mom an' dad know what room. So Braig gets the same." Dilan insisted painfully. Breathing was painful to him, "Come up...later?"

"Okay, I'll do that. You stay calm okay? Braig and I will both be along shortly, I promise. Don't wait up if you need to sleep though." She kissed his nose and gave his cheek a last pat before heading out to the adults to tell them where Dilan was going.

Dilan nodded and stayed quiet while they transferred him to another bed to get him upstairs. One of the nurses gave her the room number, promising, "We'll make sure his friend is in the same room."

Elcy and Yinsi were still pretty much frozen where they'd been when Aya left, although Yinsi said; "They'll be moving Braig soon. How's Dilan?"

"He's stitched." Aya announced, eyes still trailing to the doors the boys were behind instead of anywhere else. "And painkillers would be really good. I should get bandaged before I go up. Dilan is in your 14B, or he will be soon. We can get Braig there right? Think I can get in there?" After all she was dressed in scrubs.

Elcy finally reached out, taking Aya's arm, "You probably need stitches too." she said, a little bit more like herself. After all, bites were something she'd gotten used to. "I don't think they'll let you in with Braig. He's under, and they've got a lot of people working on him...the eye is the worst, but he got...he got really hurt. My baby is really hurt."

Yinsi pulled Elcy into a hug, and one of the nurses came over at the word stitches, "If you'll come with me, miss? We can get you taken care of, then take you upstairs."

"Ecy..." Aya swallowed at the lump in her throat that had almost made her say 'Mom'. "Elcy, Braig's a lot stronger than he looks, and he looks damn strong. He'll be okay. I won't sneak in if you think it's a really bad idea, but he'll be okay." Because he had to be. She wouldn't accept any other reality.

Blink.

"he didn't bite that hard." Stitches it was though? She guessed? "Is someone going to get Katzu painkillers?"

Elcy nodded and patted Aya's cheek, "You're a good girl, Aya. You're such a good girl."

"Healing Heart Medical has some, there's someone running for them. He should be here any minute." the nurse said, expertly putting in the three stitches needed for the worst of the cuts, "Lucky for you that Katzu mouths are relatively clean, you won't need a shot."

Aya blinked away tears at Elcy's patting then nodded. "Good, he hurts. He hurts a lot." Never mind her. Three stitches was nothing to an eye and the mess Dilan's stomach had been. "I should...I should go up then? If I can't go see Braig." At least she could be with one of the boys that way?

And resist sneaking in to see the other?

"Yes." Yinsi agreed, "Go on up and sit with Dilan. We'll be there when Braig is out. Take care of our kitten." All of ours.

"Okay, I'll do that." Aya blinked and fussed at the nurse who was now wrapping an ace bandage over the soft bandage on her stitches, then ended up hiccup-snarling and taking the end clips to do herself on the way up. "Fourteen-B, don't forget okay?" Not that she though they would it just...

...gave her something to say until the elevator doors closed.

"We won't." Yinsi said, giving Aya a wave and then kissing his wife's hair.

Upstairs, Dilan was in a sort of fugue-state. They didn't have drugs strong enough to put him under, but he didn't care very much. "Monkey-girl."

Well, those drugs were on their way.

Aya slipped into the room and went to perch on the chair by his bed. "Told you I'd be back kitten. Braig will be up soon, promise."

A tear dripped from one lovely violet eye, "I couldn't save his eye." he admitted, as though it was his fault, "I tried. Can't regrow what's lost."

"Hey hey hey now." She leaned forward to lay her hands on his cheek, just below that dripping eye. "I heard the doctors and nurses. A riot Dilan, one that left bodies. You kept him alive, and didn't die yourself."

"Should have saved him." he said miserably, "Don't even know where it came from...out of nowhere."

About then came the sound of other people in the hall, and then a completely unconscious Braig was wheeled in, followed by his parents. Everyone was shooed over to where Aya was so that they could hook Braig up to all the monitors.

"You did kitten. Never, EVER say otherwise. You saved him." That said she left her hand on his cheek but shifted enough to watch Braig's bed coming in.

Oh elements he looked like hell.

But breathing hell.

In, out. In, out. Steady and drugged. Okay, that was good. That was as good as it got right now.

"I'm proud of you."

He did look like hell. Pale, and with bandages over half his face, and hooked up to things that went beep and blip and dripped into his arm.

Dilan was hooked up to a couple of things as well, monitors and an IV of saline because they didn't have any of his blood type on hand. Something that several of the doctors were determined to fix. Soon. Dilan's hand turned over to grip Aya's as tightly as he could - which wasn't much.

Elcy and Yinsi moved over to kiss his forehead and brush his hair back.
