Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"It's warm." Dilan says, "And I love building things, then watching the ocean take them away. Cycle of life, small? And yeah, it is. The ocean, it wants to kill you. Life comes from it, life goes back to it, it's brutal. You can see things you'll never understand if you just watch, but at the same time a pool is much kinder because it doesn't have tides, or currents."

Liiiiiiiiiiiittle bit of an adrenaline junkie.

"It's grainy. And shifty." she countered easily. Blankets worked just as well for warm, right?

"I don't think I'm allowed any more things that want to kill me..." she laughed. "But I'll try it at least once before I pass final judgment. Me? I'm in favor of swimming in fall pools. The deep areas just under waterfalls?" she loved...the noise. How it echoed even when totally under. Loud and strange enough that she couldn't hear herself think. It was relaxing...

"It is." Dilan says, "But I like the grainy and shifty nature of it. Waterfalls are nice, too. There's just something about the ocean..."

"Fair enough" she laughed. Who knew? Maybe beach sand was a hell of a lot loss annoying than it's nearest cousins!

"Have someone take pictures next time you go?" it'd be interesting to see him surfing...or just excited about the ocean. Though, when the idea had shifted from 'Tell me about the ocean' to 'I'd actually like to see this in him' she didn't know.

"Braig's mom does scrapbooking. I can bring one next time we see each other." Dilan says contently.

"Sure, why not?" she grinned "It'll give us something go through after one or both of us sprains an ankle or something..." she hadn't skated since she was a kid. She harbored no illusions!

Dilan grins back and then sits up straight when the food arrives.

This is where another quirk of Dilan shows up. He produces a pair of chopsticks, and is quite contently picking up chunks of berry with them.

Aya watched him for a moment, then chuckled. Yep, an interesting person, Dilan.

She really liked interesting.

She was content to use the utensils at hand though. It made steak easier!

Dilan grins at her, "We never used forks growing up. I'll cut my waffle and eat it with chopsticks, too."

"Hey, no argument here." she laughed again. "I'm just amused." incredibly amused.

"I never managed to carry chopsticks with me...so I kind of got used to eating with what ever was on hand.." her mother would have approved though. This was a young man who was prepared!

"The cafe at work has started stocking extras. Braig's the same way, although he's more likely to forget chopsticks than I am. I used to carry two sets, one to eat with and one for fancy stuff with my hair." Dilan grins a little wider, "But, well, the dreads are too heavy for chopsticks now, so the topknot it is."

"We've got the desk drawer full of random plastic stuff." she admitted easily. "Mainly sporks and plastic knives...but sometimes someone tosses a fistful of chopsticks in, depends on who's ordering from where." eating on the go was like that?

"Have you ever considered reinforced hair sticks?" she asked curiously. "My mother's hair was down to her ankles, but she could pin it up with special sticks..." she leaned back a moment, trying to think where said sticks had gone.

"A couple of times, but the dreads aren't just hair, they're also the wax that keeps them smooth. You can touch if you want to, I promise they get cleaned regularly." Dilan tilts his head toward her in offer, "Although be careful of my ears. They're, um. Sensitive."

"Sensitive painful?" she asked curiously. And yes, she did reach up to tangle her fingers lightly among the dreads. She didn't even notice when she ended up rolling one between her fingers, testing the texture.

"Hmmm, yep. Far heavier than chopsticks allow for." she mused. That was alright. Maybe she could figure out alternatives later...

"Only if you pull or tug on it. In general they're a major erogenous zone so it would just be awkward on my end if you started playing with them." Dilan says, with a very subtle blush.

She let the dreadlocks slip from her fingers as she took in the blush. Subtle, yes...add in the dark skin and she'd almost missed it, but...she hadn't thought much of anything would make the man blush. "I'll keep that in mind" she promised simply.

"Thanks for the warning." it' wouldn't have been fair to him to accidentally tease tonight...

"No problem." Dilan says, grinning again and shrugging, "Strawberry?"

She eyed her plate and realized she actually was done eating. The rest would be going to the precinct with her for a lunch some time. So, actual meal over, sweet things were alright! "Please"

Dilan holds a strawberry out with chopsticks, smiling at her contently. It's nice to have her here. She's fun to hang out with.

She eyed the chopsticks a moment and realized there was no utensil she could transfer the strawberry to without a great deal of juggling and potentially dropped fruit. So, with a grin, she simply leaned forward enough to accept as graciously as she could.

Fun was nice.

"I should get boxes..." she sighed afterward "Danny will be here soon."

"Probably." Dilan agrees, raising his hand to get a waitress' attention and offering Aya another strawberry.

He makes no apologies for the masculine pleasure at watching her eat from his chopsticks. She does, in fact, have a very pretty mouth.

Another advantage of being out with Dilan was that waitresses noticed him! It was a growing list it seemed...

And if she suspected his attention, well, she didn't seem to mind as she licked the chopsticks clean once more. She did, actually, like strawberries herself. "Wednesday..." she mused once her mouth was no longer full "...where would you like to meet?"

He leans back and thinks about it, "What time do you get off? I can arrive there, and we can take a bus together. It's easier than trying to give directions to somewhere public and hope we see each other."

Okay, he's easy to pick out of a crowd. But she's short.

"It's not so much 'getting off' on Wednesday. I'll have to go home and change out of my dress uniform..." she sighed.

...but damn it Central Park was big.

"Duties should be done by noon?" a time was a start!

"Want to meet me at the labs instead, then?" Dilan offers, not willing to suggest her place, "I'll be there most of the morning anyway, and it's not like extra time will be a problem if you run late."
