Aya AU: meeting Cat

Dilan is hanging out near the station, waiting for Aya to get off work. Every now and then his hair makes a semi-disgruntled mrrp? noise. The reason for that is the small black cat who is not in the cat carrier at his feet.

Dilan smiles at her and pauses, "Going to join me?"

[mitochondriaaya]

The question actually made her blink and shake her head to clear the grin "Hmmm? Harder to watch my eye candy then..." she teased, but she did start unstrapping the training weights. Training was all well and good, but keeping up was better?

"Well, yeah, but you can see me again later." Dilan laughs softly, "I don't mind being on display for you?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"That's reassuring I guess..." she noted, not exactly sure how to respond to that one. She flexed her ankles a moment, then stood to return the weights to their home. No point in having Nara tease her for laxness.

"Though you're going to really spoil me if I start expecting these things..." she laughed, then slipped into a shallow, distance eating dive. She...swam for a purpose?

"If a spoiled Aya is a happy Aya, bring on the spoilage." Dilan chirps.

When she surfaced she wrinkled her nose at him "I think I'd end up confused after too much." she admitted as she tread water. Yes, the pool was much deeper than Aya was tall. "But moments are perfectly acceptable."

"Hey, I'd like you to get used to being happy more often than not." Dilan says quietly.

[mitochondriaaya]

She blinked pool water out of her eyes, then nibbled her lower lip a moment. She wasn't exactly sure how to phrase what she was trying to convey...

"You're very distracting, Dilan." not quite it, but a start. "Happy moments get me through the week, but it's a rough job. I have to be used to the mind set I'm in most of the week and grateful for the happy moments."

"Aya, babe, that's not healthy." Dilan says, stopping for a moment and then floundering before he makes it to a point where he can stand on the bottom, "Physically."

[mitochondriaaya]

Yeah, obviously she totally blew the phrasing. Fuck. She didn't move to follow him, just tread water as she thought things over.

"I've been doing it almost all my life Dilan. It's...it makes the happy moments special." she lifted her hands to shrug and ended up dunking herself a moment before she restored her above water status. "I'm not saying it right...but it's like the difference between never noticing something is wonderful but you see it all the time...and cherishing something for it's wonder...am I making any sense?"

"That doesn't mean it's healthy." he says again, helplessly, "Because it can really fuck up your body, not to mention your heart and soul."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, well..." she wasn't agreeing. She wasn't arguing either. She just...didn't know what to say. It hadn't killed her yet? And the psych evals were still fine across the board.

"I'm very good at my job." she sighed at last. Laps were good. Yeah. Swimming.

"I know. But I will worry." he says with a shrug, then goes back to doing his laps as well.

And she couldn't deny him that. After all, she was allowed to worry about him. So.

It took her a few laps, but she finally caught his rhythm well enough to pace him. Swimming together was half the fun of inviting someone swimming right?

He grins at her, still doing his laps half above and half below the water.

She was mainly doing arm exercises, so breast and back stroke...but that didn't mean she could eventually smile back.

And maaaaybe tease her fingers along an arm or shoulder when she dipped down.

His grin gets bigger every time she touches him, although the imp of the perverse makes him keep speeding up.

She wanted a workout, right?

[mitochondriaaya]

...he was going to make her go underwater wasn't he? She was faster under water...it just didn't work her arms as much.

Well then.

She came off the wall in a neat tuck dive and poked him. He deserved it.

He grins under the water, pokes her back, and speeds up again.

He loves the water.

[mitochondriaaya]

She was quick, quick enough to keep up a while longer...she just didn't have his lung capacity. She surfaced after another poke then finished the lap in a few strokes. She'd just have to catch up again.

Dilan grins at her and twists easily to keep himself going, pointing out at the other end of the pool, "Practically grew up in the water."

[mitochondriaaya]

She laughed at that, and though it was a long pool she was totally sticking her tongue out at him! "Yeah yeah yeah. I'll get you into my element sometime..." she teased.

[sliceitwithwind]

He grins at her, "And what element would that be? I warn you, I hate heights."

[mitochondriaaya]

"New York probably." she admitted with a shrug "I know most the nooks and crannies in Manhattan. Less chance of both of us being in a running chase though..." she pushed off the wall to head his way.

[sliceitwithwind]

"Yeah, and I am not a native." he admits, "Nor a cop. We could just race?"
