Kiddie AU

Aya and Dilan had been dating for a bit over a month. During that time, Braig quietly put his affairs in order, so to speak.

Oh, not in the wills and death kind of way, but rather in the way that he broke up with the girlfriends as Dilan did (which raised no eyebrows, that was the way it had always been after all), and in the way that he started, and abandoned, a million different ways to approach the other two. Aya first, he knew that much. Dilan was, after all, polyamourous and more likely to follow the other two just because that was what he'd always done. Aya - Aya was monogamous and it could bring this whole house of cards tumbling down.

A house of cards that Braig had spent the majority of his life building, step by step and moment by moment. He'd known what he wanted since he was eleven years old, from the time that Aya shrieked Lions! in her little girl's voice, and Dilan paffed into the dust behind her.

It just took another twenty years for the two of them to start getting the idea...but...they might not want him.

And past that...

Past that? She was dizzy. And confused. And shocked. And numb.

"I hurt, Elsy...and I don't know why."

"Sweetie, you're trying to deal with something you've been ignoring for most of your life." Elcy pointed out, pushing Aya into a chair and handing her the chocolate again, "Now. Can you imagine living without Dilan? Can you imagine living without Braig? Can you imagine sleeping with the two of them in the same bed? Can you imagine having sex with both of them? When you think about children, what do you imagine?"

There was a hint of give me grandchildren in there. She won't pretend there wasn't.

She just kind of...clutched the box to her chest, not really processing outside stimuli enough to get a chocolate infusion. "No. No. Yes." After all, sleeping together was one of the big reassurances in her life. Whenever things went bad, went wrong, went...anything major, they tended to crash together. "At the same time?" Yep, touch of panic there! Though...maybe? She had no idea! "I'm a stick in threesomes." Yes, outside terminology!

"I..." Did she think about children? "...blonde?"

"Darling, it's the boys. Do you really think you'd be a stick with the boys?" Does she think that they'd let her be a stick? Have they ever, under any circumstances? "Do you want both of them?"

"I don't know!" She could still be a stick! It was the BIG way she was different from them! "And what if I am? And I fail again, and I lose them?" Both of them, just gone. Because the stakes weren't high enough with just dating Dilan apparently, now she had a double jeopardy thing going and and...

And her brain was stuttering. Hadn't she answered that question already? She couldn't even think about losing them! She couldn't. "Yes."

"Aya Brea. Stop assuming things won't work and start figuring out how to make them work." Time for another gentle swat, "The three of you have never failed at anything that you've done together in your life."

...

...because that wasn't like thumbing their noses at fate or anything. Yes, teh table was getting a soft knock, even as she was wincing away from the swat.

Breathing.

"I'm scared." The first part of dealing was admitting? "No, check that, terrified out of my mind." But she could deal once she wasn't so mired in it. Wait, Elsy had known...Elsy was a researcher...

..."Do you have materials I can study?"

"Yes, dear." Elcy said simply, "You'll get over the terror. I was terrified about marrying Yinsi, but look at us now! You'd never know it was arranged."

Blink.

"Arranged?" Huh, if she thought about it, Braig had apparently tried not to go that route? Maybe failed, but he'd tried...things just kind of arranged themselves. Ouch. Brain. "You love him very much. How did you...?"

"Arranged." Elcy smiled at Aya, "Our families were old fashioned. We met the day of our wedding. Braig was worried you'd think he was trying to do that to you."

"...at least we wouldn't have met day of." She huffed a tiny laugh sipped her drink again. "Twenty years Elsy. Just...twenty years. What did you and Yinsi do?" Besides have Braig obviously.

"We talked a lot." she said, turning her cooking off and sitting down, "About, oh, everything. We discussed what we wanted from life, from each other, from sex, from housing, from anything and everything. We couldn't take anything for granted."

Several of those subjects were things they kind of went out of their way not to discuss with each other. It was going to be fun overcoming those barriers if they did decide to date. "A lot of that we do know, and talk about...a lot." They were chatty people?

Sometimes.

"And you want grandchildren. Does Braig want kids?" She was pretty sure Dilan did? Adopting was an option.

"Yes, he does." Elcy said, "He just didn't want to discuss it with you much. Not before he'd confessed."

"While I generally figured I'd slip up or misjudge something and end up a single mom with the best damn uncles on hand ever." Yes, this had been her actually belief. DO NOT JUDGE HER!

"So...we talk. All of us." Probably in a puppy pile so they wouldn't flinch at each other and such. "I can talk. I can totally talk."

"Yup." Elcy said, "You talk. You talk a lot. Then you watch each other kiss. If anything is going to be screwed up, it'll rear it's head when you watch the boys kiss."

Are mothers supposed to be this calm about this?

NO MOTHERS WERE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE THIS CALM ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN IN A THREESOME!

It helped though. A little. Or maybe it just transferred some of the shock to different topics! "Okay." What else could one say to that? Wait, there was one other thing to say! "...I'm going to dabble in voyeurism." She was going to thunk her head on the table now yes.

She got a pat on the head, "Only a little bit, dear. Let me get those informational materials."

"Thank you," it was muttered to the table but Elsy heard anyway right? Right.

Her mother figure was going to get her informational materials. Pamphlets. This was just like going to the doctor to discuss birth control right? Simple. Easy. A folder of materials, red from top to toe, and a tiny bit of her brain cackling gleefully about possibilities. Even if she had no rational idea about what the possibilities were but hey...

...the table was no help.

There was a thump of papers, a different hand petting her hair, and then a quiet thump of ice cream. Covered in alcohol.

There was a vain attempt to grab the ice and turn the reading materials over so Yinsi wouldn't see and...well, Ice cream won. "Hi." There was alcohol on her ice cream. Forget the boys for a moment, Yinsi was her number one man!

Only a moment though. "You heard?"

"I heard. Mostly that my son was being an idiot, although I did expect that of him." Yinsi was older than his wife by a fair bit, and his health a bit dodgy. This didn't stop him from giving Braig's smile as he sat down.

She gave him a wan smile in turn and saluted him with her spoon. "I'm not sure there was a way to do...this..." vague waving! "Without coming across as an idiot though?" Defending Braig was second nature. Even when she was mad at him!

"Well, no." he agreed, leaning back in his chair, "But it doesn't change the fact that you were caught by surprise."

"Floored," she agreed, the small smile fading away. "I'm still flailing over how do I survive dating Dilan and he..." yeah, he dropped the other shoe.

"And jealous. He told me he was jealous." She needed more ice cream than what was on her spoon, yep. "It feels...a lot like the brain freeze actually." Ack. Brain freeze.
