Kiddie AU - Aya's living on the couch.

"She's WHAT?!" Elcy, it turned out, could roar. Much like a lion...only louder, if her son was to be believed, "Braig! Why didn't you tell me this earlier? We have spare rooms!"

"Mom...I..."

"We," Dilan broke in, "we didn't think..."

"I am very disappointed in the two of you. You are going to march right over there, young man," that was with a pointed finger at her son, "and grab that poor girl's things and bring them back here. You," at Dilan, "are going to get the larger of the spare rooms set up for her. I am going to go shopping. What's Aya's favourite colour?"

"Sky blue." said Braig, already grabbing his coat and heading out. He did not, nobody argued with his mom when she was that angry.

"Sky blue. Fine. Dilan, call Yinsi and let him know Aya is moving in with us."

"...Yes'm." Dilan mumbled, the last thing Braig heard before the door closed.

It didn't take long for him to get over to Aya's house...Aya's...old...house. "Hey! Ayay! You here?"

Braig grinned at her, the same grin he'd have when he was twenty-two, or fifty-two, or a hundred and two. "You have to learn the minimums, like your maths, to follow. You have to learn even more to lead."

"Nuh-uh. The kids down the street don't even know addition and they follow just fine." So there Braig! Winning wasn't exactly easy with Aya at any age? Not six, twenty-six, or a hundred and six. "So I think you're lying a little!" Maybe not a lot of lying, but a little!

"But they're not part of us." he gestured at the three of them, "They're not worth anywhere near as much time as we are." Ego, he has it.

[mitochondriaaya]

"So if one of us is a leader, and the other two are following, what are they then?" She asked, curious despite herself.

[sliceitwithwind]

"Minions." Duh, "Sometimes we're leaders, sometimes we're minions. Other people are lackeys."

[mitochondriaaya]

"So wait, are we minions or are they minions? I asked about them and you said us!" But, more importantly, "Does this mean we get a volcano?"

"We're minions, they're lackeys." Braig said, "And if you want a volcano we can totally get a volcano. When we're older, I don't think mom would let us have one now."

Dilan is trying to eat ALL THE APPLES.

"Okay, so we're all minions, they're lackeys, and we can have a volcano!" She lifted her hands in a cheer. "Does this mean we're bad guys now?" And heeeeyyyyy she wanted another apple! If he bit her finger she'd bop his nose.

"Nah, we're not bad. We're like...like the Victory Team. Except that we're two geniuses and one kickass little girl, not three fighters."

Dilan just gave her sad-eyes, he didn't try to keep the last apple slice. "Ayay isn't just kickass, she's also really brave."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh good, I don't know how to be a bad guy." Aya admitted. Maybe she did need to do more studying. "And I like being a good guy." Huh. Last one? She broke the apple slice into pieces and passed them around as a matter of course.

"Course I'm brave, cause I can wear an octopus on my head!"

"I'm good." Braig held up a handful of granola. The kids could have the apple piece.

Dilan, manfully, ate carrot instead. "We're awesome good guys. We're gonna make the world a better, safer place when we're grown up."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay!" Aya cheerfully crunched her apple pieces since the boys were munching other things. "Uh huh, I'm gonna be a cop! And you guys can be cops too! Or presidents!"

"Scientist." Dilan mumbled into his second carrot, "I'm gonna be a scientist. I'm gonna find out why I'm the only Katzu-halfbreed. I'm gonna help Katzu learn how to have more babies."

"I'm going to be a metaphysicist." Braig informed them, "I'm going to learn all about magic and why it works how it works, and help learn new ways to travel and fight monsters and things."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, you can ALSO be presidents too though, cause you're smart." Because a lot of that went over her head but hey! "But that means we'll be an awesome super team! A doctor guy who helps people have babies, the guy who makes it easy to fight monster, and I can arrest bad guys!"

"Sounds good to me." Braig, honestly, would be okay just as long as the three of them stay together.

Dilan flopped on the carpet, tapping his fingers in some kind of pattern known only to his own mind...he was totally high on sugar.

Downstairs the door swung open, "Kids! Help me with the car!"

"He's totally had too much apple!" Aya laughed and poked Dilan's side. If that didn't get her into a tickle match nothing wou---ulp. "CAR!"

That was like saying 'We're coming down' right?

Dilan snapped at the finger, then hopped up to help. Braig made it down before either of the others due entirely to longer legs.

Elcy stood by the car, which had Mysterious Bags in it. Some were from the local linen shop, some were from a toy shop, and some were from one of those weird house-wares shops that some adults love so much.

She snapped her teeth at the air just to let him know she saw that then trotted downstairs as a matter of course. Bags. Bags bags bags!

"Mine smells like laundry!" and plastic, but hey, that one should be obvious right?

"Take that one into the laundry room for Dilan, sweetie." Elcy informed her, "It's got blue sheets and a comforter for your bed."

"Laundry!" chirruped Dilan, who got the toy bag.

"That goes on the table, the three of you can get into it after everything else is put away." The last bags were split between Elcy and her son, "You can help me put this stuff up, baby. Some posters and other things for Aya's room to help make it homey."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, laundry room...wait. Comforter? Isn't a blanket already comfy?" Now she just had to poke her nose in the bag to see. Sheets in plastic and a big blanket. Nothing weird, but...huh. Okay. Adults were weird. "We get to have blue!"

Aya totally missed the part about posters and stuff.

Dilan stuck things on the table, then followed Aya into the laundry, "Got anything else that needs to go in, Ayay?" he asked as he measured soap and water. Braig's family had extra large washer and drying due to doing laundry for three highly active kids, two scientists, and a nurse.

Dilan did at least half the laundry. More than that if given the chance. "And could you grab the basket from Braig and my room?"

"My PJs!" she admitted. "We forgot those when we started doing homework instead!" And yes, if the thumping of her feet away, then up the stairs was any indication she could fetch a basket!

Coming down she sounded even more like an elephant!

When she got back Dilan was loading sky blue sheets into the machine; sky blue sheets with white octopi dancing all over them. "Check it out, monkey, Elcy knows you really well!"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, octopus!" She hadn't picked up on 'octupi' as the plural yet. "Those are cool!" She might end up wearing the sheets as a cape some day soon. "But don't you guys have like sheets and stuff?"

"Yeah, but these are yours." Dilan said in the blank voice that meant his OCD was talking, "We can use them sometimes, like we use mine or Braig's, but these are yours."
