Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"They don't stick well to the dreads." Dilan pointed out, shaking his head. "Which I probably want to cut...they're really long now."

[mitochondriaaya]

"They grew a lot," Aya agreed. "It'll probably be easier to start swimming and surfing again with them shorter, but then they can get long again?" She could see reason! She could!

"And it's okay, an octopus doesn't have to stick! It can just wrap it's tentacles around your dreads and hang on! Or maybe a starfish on your face..."

"Or maybe not." Dilan said, laughing, "You're the one who likes octopus on the head. If I cut 'em I'll probably keep 'em shoulder length."

[mitochondriaaya]

"It," she sat up straighter, gathering what dignity she could, "was a phase." A very long phase! SO THERE!

She'd still totally do octopus on her head if they found one though.

"And then they can get long again? I think I'll grow my hair some too! Let it get long before I become a cop!"

Dilan just grinned at her, "Do you want me to keep them long? 'Cause, really, if I cut them it'd take years to get them this long again."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I think they look good," Aya admitted. "But will they get in the way with learning to swim again?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Probably not." Dilan said, thinking about it, "I mean, no more than the shoulders will."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Then don't!" Aya grinned. "And I won't cut mine either! Except for stuff that needs to be cut? I don't know how often that will be, I don't have Braig hair."

"Nobody has Braig hair." Dilan said with a sigh, then he grinned, "Well. Except mom and dad."

[mitochondriaaya]

"So nobody knows how much mine will have to be trimmed!" Aya laughed. "But we'll find out? And then we can all spend time having people play with our hair!"

"It'll be fun." Dilan said, "I can do fancy braiding on your hair, too."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay!" Only a fool would turn down that offer? "I figure I'm old enough now not to get my hair caught in everything?"

"Probably!" Dilan agreed, "Although Braig does sometimes, still."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, I don't think I'll ever have as much hair as Braig does!" Aya admitted. "So hopefully it won't even get caught that much. If it gets long enough though I'll start clipping a water knife to my suit." Just in case she wiped and got her hair caught on something submerged! It was a standard precaution!

"You don't already?" Dilan asked, frowning at her, "You should be anyway."

[mitochondriaaya]

"When I'm surfing with Braig?" she offered. "But the tether for my board was a smart pop. I can start doing it again though."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Do it." Dilan said, "All the time, okay?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, I will" She smiled at Dilan easily and reached up to poke his nose. "You still hungry?"

"Mmmmnnnno." he decided, "Mom, dad? I think we're ready to go."

[mitochondriaaya]

Aya, belatedly, handed over the receipts that had been collecting in her pockets and Elcy's card. Then she started shuffling bags out from under the table so they could be toted to the car! "And Dilan has the gift card receipt bit from the nice store until the card comes in the mail!"

"Uh huh." Dilan agreed, claiming most of the bags since they were his after all.

Elcy piled into the back with Aya, at the car.

It was a little weird to have Elcy in back, but she was just as comfortable to lean against as Dilan! She was a leaning kind of girl really, even if she wasn't actually tired. "Are you allowed to get out of the backseat of the car at fancy fundraisers?" she asked.

Elcy pet her shoulder in a maternal way. "Of course, dear. We'll probably have a limo pick us up, now that I think on it, that will give Dilan plenty of legroom."

"I like that idea, mom." Dilan admitted.

[mitochondriaaya]

"I didn't know if there were rules about that!" Aya admitted with a grin. "A limo would be nice, there's lots of room to spread my homework books out..." She was claiming the chunk of the floor Dilan and everyone else wasn't using for leg room!

"Ah, good." Yinsi said, "Then I don't need to drive." He knew that Braig would, but he liked to give his son time with his best friends, and not living with Aya was hard on the boy.

"Cool. Do you want me to call tomorrow, mom?" Dilan asked, "I can get it set up."
