Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

Aya seemed to have an almost unnatural feel for where Dilan was hanging out when she was worried. Today she came home from school, pounded through the house, through the kitchen in a whirlwind tour of snack grabbing, and was thunking herself down beside him before the screen door in front finished it's banging recoils. "What are you doing out here?" Homework could wait!

"Reading." he pointed out, offering an arm to cuddle under. It was. SO. Weird to have her so tiny next to him. "I couldn't take being inside any longer."

She didn't mind being tuckable size! Not really anyway (she kinda hoped to get at least a few more inches herself?). It did make snuggling against him a little different, but not different enough to be uncomfortable. "Knocking into things still?" she asked, blunt but sympathetic. "You know what we should do? We should go into town, get you a new wet suit, and then go swimming. Can't knock into things in the water right?"

"Man, I'd probably trip and break someone's car." Dilan pointed out, "Besides, do you really think they'll have something big enough?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"You are not going to trip and break a car," Aya snorted. "And we won't know until we look. You know some of the tourists that come through here, and the surf nuts get big too so don't you be all pessimistic at me!" She'd ride his shoulders or something to balance him out if she had to.

"Okay, okay." Dilan said, "Let me finish the drink? Mom said it'll help me put more muscle on."

[mitochondriaaya]

"And so will exercise," Aya pointed out cheerfully. "But yeah, I gotta eat my snack too." She might even share a bit of her apple at the end?

Dilan smiled at her and set his book aside to devote himself to the drink. "So weird being big."

[mitochondriaaya]

"You'll get used to it though, it's how katzu grow right?" she smiled at him softly and patted his arm. "And you might like it. You could carry your girlfriends you know! And Braig when he falls asleep in weird places!"

"Yeah, I know." He wrinkled his nose at her, "It's still really weird. I wonder if everyone has the body dysmorphia? Maybe we can check later."

[mitochondriaaya]

"We can write and ask?" Aya offered. "Of course the young hunters will probably say dumb things but the elders might have good advice?" That or 'get hungry enough you catch supper properly again'. One or the other!

"It...isn't like you to just sit Dilan."

"Sure, we can do that." Dilan agreed, then he grinned a little at Aya, "I'm still kind of shaky...I used up all my calories growing! Just let me get that caloric deficit gone and I'll be blundering into things in no time."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I"ll make up more shake in a travel thermos?" she offered. "So you can have some after we swim! Or while we're swimming and want a break!" Aya grinned, glad he wasn't going to just sit and sit and sit...

"You know, if we mix it with yoghurt it might have even more calories? And dairy!"

"That sounds good." Dilan agreed, "You go make that while I finish this? Then I can stick my blankets back in the house...I'm not sure the deck furniture will hold me any more."

[mitochondriaaya]

"If it doesn't we get new furniture, no big deal." Aya stood up and kissed his nose before heading into the kitchen. "Besides, it's old anyway! It deserves to retire to some family down the way who won't have kids building forts out of it!"

"But I like this stuff." Dilan said quietly, then turned his attention to his drink. It didn't take long to finish it and start folding the blankets up.

[mitochondriaaya]

"You're one of the brainiacs," Aya pointed out through the kitchen screen. "Help me figure out how to rebuild or reinforce it then! We can work driftwood into it?" Or something? Driftwood was plentiful and easy to replace if they messed up!

"We'll see." Dilan said with a grimace, putting his blankets back inside, "We might just have to do what you said."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Options, Dilan. We can come up with options." She screwed the cap on the big thermos and handed it to him cheerfully. "And I love you no matter what so!"

[sliceitwithwind]

"That's good." Dilan said, reaching out to ruffle her hair, "I don't think I could live if you didn't love me. Ready to go?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"You never have to worry about that Dilan." She held still for the hair ruffling then slipped an arm around his waist and tugged him back outside. "Ever. Love you forever and you better remember that."

"Do my best." he said, letting himself be tugged. "Man, I'm gonna need to do some serious shopping." He had a couple of changes of clothing Braig had gotten him, eyeballing the size...but they didn't fit terribly well.

[mitochondriaaya]

"You know..." Aya drawled thoughtfully. "If we go hit the bus station now we can be in the city in an hour? They'll have more stores with the proper sizes. Get shopping done today go swimming when we get back with supper on the beach?"

"You ready to be sole arbiter of my fashion choices?" Dilan asked wryly, "I mean, Braig isn't here to supervise..."

"Will you listen when I say no?" Aya countered with a grin before sticking her head back in the door. "ELLLLLCYYYYYY! We need the card to get Dilan clothes!!"
