Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"That much, eh? Are you becoming as much as a clothing horse as Braig?" Yinsi asked, giving his wife a kiss.

Elcy laughed and shook her head, "Be nice." she said.

Dilan just grinned, "No...I just needed to get cold things too."

"Coats and boots and stuff," Aya admitted. "We tried to think of everything?" They probably forgot stuff anyway but they tried! "And formal wear and a wetsuit."

"I look like a thug in a black tux, mom."

[mitochondriaaya]

"He looks uncomfortable in a black tux,": Aya countered with a grin. "So it's dark grey. That works for formal right?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"That will do just fine." Elcy agreed, "Good thing you picked it up, too. Since you're here, you'll be coming with us to the fundraiser this Friday night. Aya, you didn't forget did you?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Mmmmmnoooo?" She hadn't forgotten really? Just...not remembered! "We're always doing something fancy so we thought it was a good idea! Can we wear kimonos or dress and tux event?"

"Dress and tux, I'm afraid." Yinsi said, "Your blue one should do fine."

"Sweetheart, that one is old. Either the red one or a new one, Aya."

"So glad I'm not a girl."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Red one! I"ll get new stuff when I grow too." Aya grinned easily. Yeah, she knew she wouldn't shoot up a foot or more but...she'd still outgrow a lot then and might as well save shopping until then?

"And being a girl isn't so bad! I do just fine!"

"Fair enough." Elcy said, smiling, "You can wear my garnets with it, if you'd like."

"Yeah, you do...but c'mon Ayay. With my fashion fail I'd be the worst dressed girl ever."q

[mitochondriaaya]

"I'll see what I can do with my hair? I might wear the garnet pins if it's cooperating!" Aya grinned and bounced in her seat a little at the idea. "And no you wouldn't be Dilan, you'd still have Braig and me, and girls are no more naturally fashionable than guys!"

"Yeah, still." Dilan said, "At least this way I only have to know kimono or tux. Braig'll be back for it, too, mom. You should tell him to bring his tux or he'll forget on purpose."

[mitochondriaaya]

"The secret is paying attention when someone says 'You look good in that'," Aya confided. "And having utterly trustworthy sources! Elcy and Yinsi wouldn't lie to me!" They wouldn't!

"Don't we have a spare tux here for him?" Aya asked, trying to remember.

"I'll call him tonight, Dilan, thank you." Elcy said, "I'm pretty sure he took his only one with him."

"He did." Dilan assured her, digging into his burger with a happy sigh.

"Say hi for us?" Aya asked cheerfully. Mmmm, giant cheeseburger! It had slightly less meat and slightly more veggies than Dilan's but still. Biiiiiig. It was not unknown for other kids at school to bring left over slices of a burger to school for lunch! "And can we splash in the shallows when we get back?"

"You can talk to him too, Aya." Elcy pointed out, digging into her salad. Yinsi had the garden burger, unapolgetically despite his health. They didn't come here often, after all.

"Yeah, can we?" Dilan asked, "I don't wanna try swimming until day, but it'd be fun..."

"Want to, Dilan, you're smart enough for proper grammar. And yes, you may, as long as you're back by dinner time."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Not if we're off splashing when you call!" Aya pointed out then...looked down at food on the table. Seriously? Seriously seriously? "What's this? A snack? What time is dinner tonight?" She laughed at the adults and swung her feet cheerfully.

"That's true." Elcy agreed, and then also looked at the table and laughed, "Well, supper then. I know you two, you'll need to eat again before you sleep. Lets say ten? Be back by ten."

Dilan shared a grin with Yinsi. Sometimes Elcy was funny.

[mitochondriaaya]

"We'll bring an alarm to the beach!" Aya promised with a sweet smile. "And yeah, we will..." Still kinda weirded out by that honestly. "And I'm still waiting on my presentation grade about why I need to eat more." Fidget!

"For future reference...Dinner is the meal we all eat together whenever possible. Supper is bonus food round. Sound like a good definition?"

"My watch still fits." Dilan promised. It was a good, waterproof one. "You'll let me know what you get, right? I can talk to the teacher again if I need to."

"Dilan, sweetie, I'm sure he got it the first time." Elcy said.

Yinsi agreed, "That's a good definition, Aya. We'll go with it."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I don't need you guys to fudge and fix my grades!" Aya poked Dilan in the ribs. "I just really, really hope I explained all the science stuff right because otherwise it wasn't really about the right thing?" SHE WORRIED OKAY?! "Plus I'm pretty sure my teacher thought you were going to bite him." And biting was Aya's job since Dilan had grown up and gotten some dignity and all.

"I like Dinner," Aya grinned in general, because...yeah. She liked having people there at least one meal of the day! Granted, she was probably over compensating for meals alone as a kids still.

"I know!" Dilan said, laughing, "I wouldn't bite him! I'd probably break his arm if I bit him now..."

"Dinner is good." Elcy agreed, "It's a nice way to catch up with everyone."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I don't think you'd break his arm unless you were trying," Aya admitted, "or unless he was really dumb and wiggled weird or something." Because it took a little more than that to snap an adult's arm?

And yes, dinner was good.

"Maybe." Dilan said, wiggling his jaw, "I've got a lot of power here now."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I wonder if you could do something like biting through a coconut..." BECAUSE SHE WAS THIRTEEN!

[sliceitwithwind]

"No, children." Elcy said, "Dilan, you are not to try to bite through a coconut."

"Yes, mom." Dilan said, although he did look curious.
