Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"No, children." Elcy said, "Dilan, you are not to try to bite through a coconut."

"Yes, mom." Dilan said, although he did look curious.

Who wouldn't be curious really? "Yes mom," Aya parroted. "I won't bring him stuff to bite either."

"Thank you. We do not need Dilan breaking teeth." Elcy said with a sigh.

"Ooo, yeah. That'd suck." Dilan agreed.

"Oh, right," Aya agreed. The teeth falling out thing was still kinda fresh in her mind. "How do we test how strong his jaw is now without breaking his teeth?" They'd know right?!

[sliceitwithwind]

"You don't need to test out how strong Dilan's jaw is." Elcy said, shaking her head.

"I could get stress-testing equipment with rubber..."

"Dilan."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Awwwwwww!" Aya made a mournful face across the table at the adults and leaned on Dilan's arm. "Don't you wanna know?" Oh, wait. They'd already corrected that tonight. "Don't either of you want to know?"

Aya got a look for the wanna, but nothing else. "No, dear, we don't need to know. I'd be too worried about Dilan hurting himself. He's not likely to ever need to know how much he can bite."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Sure he will!" Aya pointed out with a grin. "He's going to have to go hunt big dangerous things since he's grown now right? And I bet that takes biting as well as everything else!"

Elcy gave Yinsi a pleading look, but the older man said, "Design a series of experiments, Dilan, and show us the safety protocols. We'll make a decision then. Until that's done, this discussion is tabled."

"Yes, dad."

[mitochondriaaya]

"If you have to do it at the college I want a video!" Aya grinned and then dropped it entirely as ordered. "I'm going to meet Dilan the gym tomorrow after school and bring him chicken, do you want me to bring home chicken for you too?"

"No thank you, Aya." Elcy said, "We'll take the evening and go have a date." It was important for them to keep dating! And nights the kids had other things to do were useful!

[mitochondriaaya]

"I like when you guys date!" It made Aya feel good really to see them still being happy together! "Are you going to see a movie?" She wouldn't wait up if the were going to be out late?

[sliceitwithwind]

"We don't know yet, Aya." Yinsi said, "We'll let you know, all right?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, I'll still be in bed by eleven though." Aya was good like that! "Might be reading with Dilan though?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"That's fine." Elcy said, "You're a good girl, Aya." She tried to reinforce that, let Aya know that she was loved.

"We'll check in on you when we get back."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I try!" Aya beamed at them and finished her burger. "Have fun? Have a lot of fun!"

"We will." Yinsi promised.

Dilan nodded and finished up his burger, then started stealing fries from Yinsi.

Aya scooted the basket of breadsticks toward Dilan as well, since he was still hungry, and kept beaming at her family members. "Oh, can you remind us to write to the clan? We need to do that..."

"Mmm, bread." Dilan murmured.

"Of course, dear." Elcy said, "What are you planning on writing them about?"

[mitochondriaaya]

Yes, bread, and a dessert menu being inched over behind that! "Ask about the other young hunters, how they find their balance again and so Dilan knows the weird body thing isn't just him?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"That's a good idea." Yinsi said, as Dilan perused the dessert menu. Aya was doing just fine at talking, he could concentrate on the important job of feeding himself.

[mitochondriaaya]

"They'd know," Aya shrugged. "And when you're lost you ask an expert right?" This was how she dealt with the world anyway! She had a surplus of experts in her life...

"I don't like him feeling alone."

[sliceitwithwind]

"I'm not alone." Dilan said, "I've got you guys."

Elcy smiled at him, "Yes, but I understand where Aya is coming from."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Different kind of alone!" Aya sniffed and stole the dessert menu from him. "Just different. You don't listen to me when I say you're normal and fine!"

Dilan shrugged a little and said, "Yeah. Um. I'm gonna get the half watermelon."
