Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"Exactly! It all comes back in when I get out of the car now!" Because that essay had not dried properly and it had been seven pages long! IN INK! "You'll have it for when we go to bed, I promise!"

"Awesome, thanks Ayay."

"No, thank you! It's your light!" Aya grinned and offered him a berry from her parfait when the desserts arrived. "And maybe some of the dolphins will be here this weekend! No one makes a better swim coach than dolphins!"

Dilan nommed on the berry, then dug into his watermelon with a happy sigh.

Elcy shook her head at him, "Dilan, you are going to be so sugar high tonight."

"I know, mom, but I don't do it often!"

"We'll run a lot of it off out splashing?" Aya added cheerfully. "Running in shallows burns a lot of energy!"

"So it does." She agreed, shaking her head. Her children, she loved them all.

Her children were all unique! Wasn't she proud?! "And if he's still hyper after we'll figure something out before bed time!" Home by ten, snack and showers, bed by eleven...hmmm, maybe he could run laps around the house?"

She was, yes. Very, of all three of them.

"I'm sure you'll manage something, you're smart kids." She agreed.

Aya just giggled and tucked into her parfait. They would figure something out though...she was kinda sure that running through the surf would tire Dilan out a lot. And Aya almost hoped there were others still out on the beach so they could get a game of tag started. "Should set your watch now," she noted to Dilan after a moment.

"Right." Dilan agreed, setting his watch and snagging a finger full of yogurt.

Elcy and Yinsi laughed softly, but smiled.

Naturally Aya thwacked the back of his hand with her spoon when he snagged yogurt. Not hard though, she'd been expecting it!"Oh! Braig will get to go swimming with us Saturday!" That'd be nice! And probably be more reassuring to Dilan than a thirteen year old!

Dilan just chortled at the smack. He expected that, too. "Yeah." Dilan agreed, "That'll be awesome. Maybe we can stick another octopus on your head."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Only if we stick one on your head too! We can be a trio of octopus people!" They should probably bring one of the waterproof cameras on Saturday.

"They don't stick well to the dreads." Dilan pointed out, shaking his head. "Which I probably want to cut...they're really long now."

[mitochondriaaya]

"They grew a lot," Aya agreed. "It'll probably be easier to start swimming and surfing again with them shorter, but then they can get long again?" She could see reason! She could!

"And it's okay, an octopus doesn't have to stick! It can just wrap it's tentacles around your dreads and hang on! Or maybe a starfish on your face..."

"Or maybe not." Dilan said, laughing, "You're the one who likes octopus on the head. If I cut 'em I'll probably keep 'em shoulder length."

[mitochondriaaya]

"It," she sat up straighter, gathering what dignity she could, "was a phase." A very long phase! SO THERE!

She'd still totally do octopus on her head if they found one though.

"And then they can get long again? I think I'll grow my hair some too! Let it get long before I become a cop!"

Dilan just grinned at her, "Do you want me to keep them long? 'Cause, really, if I cut them it'd take years to get them this long again."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I think they look good," Aya admitted. "But will they get in the way with learning to swim again?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Probably not." Dilan said, thinking about it, "I mean, no more than the shoulders will."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Then don't!" Aya grinned. "And I won't cut mine either! Except for stuff that needs to be cut? I don't know how often that will be, I don't have Braig hair."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Nobody has Braig hair." Dilan said with a sigh, then he grinned, "Well. Except mom and dad."

[mitochondriaaya]

"So nobody knows how much mine will have to be trimmed!" Aya laughed. "But we'll find out? And then we can all spend time having people play with our hair!"

"It'll be fun." Dilan said, "I can do fancy braiding on your hair, too."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay!" Only a fool would turn down that offer? "I figure I'm old enough now not to get my hair caught in everything?"
