Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"I got 'em, you get the door." He said, "Tuck the receipt into my wallet?"

"It's blocked by bags!" Aya retorted easily, stuffing it in her own pocket. "Remind me so I don't forget and wash it?" Then it was doors and Aya kicking her feet as they headed toward the surf shop. "You should let me carry something!"

"I've got it." Dilan said, "This freakish size has to be good for something." Let him carry things, Aya.

"It isn't freakish!" But fine, he could carry bags. She'd just play forward scout and feel weird about not helping! "I'll get doors. And ohhh...that's a pretty board. Do you think the camera flash will reflect off the display glass too bad for Braig to see it?"

"I'm seven feet tall!" Dilan said, shaking his head, "I don't know, you can give it a shot? It is pretty...not as nice as the ones Braig makes, though."

[mitochondriaaya]

"You're suppose to be and that's not freakish!" So there! "And yeah, but you know he likes to see what other people are doing in case they have interesting paint and stuff!" Hmmm, maybe if she shielded it a bit? No, probably not. "Think if I ask nice they'll let me snap a shot from the top of the display inside?"

"Maybe!" Dilan said, muscling through the door, "Hi! I'm looking for a swimsuit...and to get measured for a custom wetsuit."

[mitochondriaaya]

He got pointed toward the left corner at the mention of swimsuit, but at the next statement the man behind the counter blinked. "Oh, okay, then you want to stand here? You know what brand you want to order from? Are you a first time water enthusiast?"

Aya came in behind Dilan and let the door close. Huh, new guy. "We generally use Sealskyn! You're new!"

Obviously not what the clerk wanted to hear from a thirteen year old late at night! "Yeah, sure, aren't you up a little late?"

"It's not even eight yet."

"Don't be too hard on him, Ayay." Dilan said with amusement, "Even if he wasn't new he might not recognize me. I just had a growth spurt, my old suit doesn't fit any more. By about a foot and something."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I was going to welcome him," Aya snorted. "And I didn't even bite him when he got snarky. I'll go look at suits while you get measured? I promise I won't hide all the Hawaiian print ones!"

The clerk was giving Dilan a rather sympathetic look that was part 'ouch, outgrowing stuff sucks' and part 'ouch, babysitting sucks' but he was pulling out the notation page for special orders!

"I'll meet you there." Dilan said with a laugh, leaning forwards to look at the special orders page, "I want it in black, just black."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Adventurous," the clerk noted the color in the appropriate box. "You like the classic look huh? Do you want all the way to wrists and ankles or shorter?"

"All the way." Dilan said, "And I look good in black. I've been told that a lot."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Wouldn't know," the guy admitted almost cheerfully. "Alright, full suit, so that's a few more measurements then the shorter ones. So...you'll be my first special order measure? Bear with me."

"No problem, it's my third." Dilan said, "I can help you figure it out." And he did, in fact, walk the guy through the difficult bits.

This was good because, well, the clerk seemed almost afraid of the tape measure at times! IT WAS GOING TO EAT HIM or something. Still, they got through it! "Are you going to need any more room than this? You going to grow any more?" he asked after everything was written down.

"Added musculature." Dilan said, "Don't know how much yet, though. I'll just have to get a new one if I explode." He didn't know! Some of his kin were scary!

[mitochondriaaya]

"Huh, yeah, I don't know how to allow for that? I'll at a little to the chest measurements and hope that works for you?" The idea of Dilan outgrowing another suit based on sheer muscle mass was kind of...amazing. "Add inches to all the measurements between elbows and knees maybe? Keeps your cuffs tight but the rest with room to grow?"

"Sounds good to me." Dilan agreed, "I guess a lot of it depends on how much I take after my father instead of momma." it was wry, "Being the only half-breed, ever, means nobody knows what's going to happen with me."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Really? Huh." Yeah, not really a bio nut this guy? "Yeah, that must suck a little. Still, you got height at least, which is awesome. Sign here and I'll get this faxed to our manufacturer!"

Which was fine by Dilan! He signed the form and said, "anything else?" prior to going and finding Aya.

Aya had managed to isolate a chunk of suits from the others by shoving things obviously not Dilan's size tight against the ends of each rack! And waqs reading over features pamphlets in case they'd missed a new surf board innovation or something and...

...yeah. Bored a bit. "Some guy has actually created a board with tunnels cut through it so it whistles on your car rack and 'moves better with teh current' when in the water." Aya offered with a laugh.

"Wow. And people pay money for that?" Dilan asked, paging through the shorts she found acceptable, "Oh, this one is awesome..." purple and white with big flowers all over!

[mitochondriaaya]

"Apparently they pay a lot for it," she eyed the price at the bottom of the pamphlet and shrugged. "The whistling surfboards should be tracked down and put out of their misery."

Oh, well, nothing like wearing flowers she guessed? She had promised not to veto loud prints..."Braig'll love it!"

"Sometimes the stupidity of people astounds me." Dilan said wryly, "Lets get these and then go over to Mick's! Mom and dad'll meet us there for dinner."
