Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"You know I'll just go for black." Dilan pointed out. "Black is safe."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Alright, maybe black with some accent stripes," Aya laughed. "I promise I'll only go for things you look good in!"

"Good. I'm trusting you." Dilan said, hefting the bags, "Okay, which way to that big and tall store?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"We have to exit the mall...probably easiest at the West Exit?" Aya decided after a moment of thought. "Then we walk down the strip mall section a bit?"

"Lead on, monkey." Dilan said, "I got the bags. It's too bad you're still too young to drive."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, well, we like walking!" she pointed out with amusement. "You sure you want to end up with me behind the wheel of a car?!"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Sure. You'd be as safe as Braig is." Dilan pointed out, "You wouldn't want to do any worse than him, and he's an excellent driver." The less said about Dilan's attempts at learning how to drive, the better.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Sure, make it a contest," Aya stuck her tongue out at him and laughed. "I gotta drive safe if I'm gonna be a cop some day! I should get Braig to teach me some of the stuff Nevada taught him in case I have to chase tourists or something..."

[sliceitwithwind]

"Yeah, you should." Dilan agreed, "That'd be cool...but you know Braig'll make you prove you can do the easy stuff first."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, I know. I'll have to ace driver's ed, then ace his test before he'll teach me," she sighed. "And then we'll have to do the state defensive driving tests to get me certified!"

"Look on the bright side," Dilan pointed out, "you're not Katzu, so you can do all that!"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Hey, there has to be some perks for not being awesome!" she pointed out. "Driving is one of them I guess?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Don't say you're not awesome. You're awesome! You're just not Katzu."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Katzu are awesome!" Aya pointed out with a grin. "I'm just human! And I can't even do baby magic like the kids in school! Maybe I'll grow into it or something but you gotta admit, you're beating everyone hands down, and Braig is coming up close with sheer ability to fireball stuff!" That was alright really, she was used to the idea by now!

"Magic doesn't make you awesome or not awesome." Dilan said, "You're awesome for who you are, and don't ever forget that."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Maybe," she admitted, balancing on the curb as she walked. "But it'd be nice. I guess I don't feel awesome a lot? I feel kind of like the slow kid 'cause I'm not in a casting class, and I'm not in college, and I'm not even holding my own against idiots in school right now and that sucks. I think better when I"m out here with you and stuff but in school I'm an idiot."

"You're not an idiot." Dilan said, "You skipped a bunch of classes! You're way ahead of your year, and you're not supposed to judge yourself based on me and Braig."

[mitochondriaaya]

"That just means I'm not the most idiotic idiot," she snorted. "And who else is worth comparing myself to? You want me to compare myself to someone like Jean Holden maybe? Or Marlow Anston?" Really? Yeah, that just didn't work for her.

"We're all going to judge ourselves on stupid things."

[sliceitwithwind]

"I want you to like yourself for who you are." Dilan said, "And not judge yourself against the smartest people in the world. That's not fair to you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Pot, kettle." she snorted at him. "Look, there it is! And they're still open, which is good!" Because she'd forgot to ask if the store kept the same hours as the mall since it was down the road...

Dilan didn't point out that he was one of the smartest people in the world, so judging himself against them was the right way to do it. Instead he just said, "Awesome. Get the door for me?"

[mitochondriaaya]

Well, she'd been nagging more about the 'like yourself' thing honestly. Anyway, yes, door! Opening the door actually got the attention of a sales clerk immediately, a rather tall human with a big smile. "Hello! Can I help you tonight?"

"I just grew." Dilan said, waving a hand at himself, "I need new everything. She's got the credit card."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I see! Katzu do that it seems, we had one gentleman, a diplomats son passing through and laid over because he couldn't fly while growing..." he chatted cheerfully and advanced on Dilan with a tape measure. Measurements were important!

"Hey, you could have the card you know! It's not surgically attached!"

"I know I could, but you've got it right now." Dilan said, standing so that he could be measured all over, "It's not a bad thing, they just need to know who to talk to."
