Kiddie AU - Post growth spurt

It'd been a week, but Dilan...was nowhere near used to his new size. He kept banging into walls, doors, low hanging objects. Anything dangling from the ceiling, and he kept forgetting how wide his shoulders were as well. It was driving him insane.

Not to mention the fears that his size and new, distinct lack of "cuteness" meant that he was hideous looking. He wasn't ready to go back to college, not while still recovering from the agony of the growth spurt, so he was curled up at home trying to get used to himself. Braig had needed to go back and pick school work up for the two of them, trusting that Aya would take care of Dilan until he got back.

Dilan was curled up on the back porch with a couple of blankets and a book. And a protein shake the size of a monster slurpee cup.

"Do my best." he said, letting himself be tugged. "Man, I'm gonna need to do some serious shopping." He had a couple of changes of clothing Braig had gotten him, eyeballing the size...but they didn't fit terribly well.

"You know..." Aya drawled thoughtfully. "If we go hit the bus station now we can be in the city in an hour? They'll have more stores with the proper sizes. Get shopping done today go swimming when we get back with supper on the beach?"

"You ready to be sole arbiter of my fashion choices?" Dilan asked wryly, "I mean, Braig isn't here to supervise..."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Will you listen when I say no?" Aya countered with a grin before sticking her head back in the door. "ELLLLLCYYYYYY! We need the card to get Dilan clothes!!"

"'Course I will." Dilan said, "As long as you let me buy hakama and don't try to get me in too many pairs of jeans."

"It's in the cupboard, Aya." Elcy called back, "Bring back recipts!"

[mitochondriaaya]

"I won't make you wear jeans! I think you look goo din them but push comes to shove the girlfriends can tell you that right?" She grinned and fished in the hall cupboard for Elcy's wallet and the card she needed. "We'll be back before hitting the beach! Need anything from the city?!"

"Pick up some new towels, the extra-extra large ones." Elcy called, "Dilan will need them."

Dilan wrinkled his nose again and said, "Yeah, yeah."

[mitochondriaaya]

"You know what that means? I CAN STEAL A BIG TOWEL!" Aya grinned and bounced on her toes a bit, grinning. "And I get to steal big shirts now too! THIS IS AWESOME!"

"...So I need to buy two wardrobes because you're going to steal one of them." Dilan said dryly, "Geeesh. C'mon, lets get going."

[mitochondriaaya]

"I won't steal a whole wardrobe!" Aya sniffed, hurt that he'd think so. TRULY HURT! "I just like your shirts. And Braig's shirts. And it's almost like having you guys around." So there. "I'll just take one. It can be the one that doesn't fit you well even!" And yes, back to getting their butts to the bus station!

"Uh huh." Dilan didn't believe her. "My shirts now could be whole dresses for you."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Which means I can totally wear them to school on bad days and not have to worry about the dress code!" There was no down side! None! "Do you not want me to wear your shirts?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"No, I don't mind. It's just, you know. Kind of weird." Dilan admitted, kicking a rock lightly and watching it soar.

[mitochondriaaya]

"It'll be alright though," she pointed out softly, eyes tracing the rock's path as well. "You were born to be a badass you know, and my favorite katzu. You just match your brain size now."

"Heh." Dilan chuckled a bit, but shook his head, "I know, it's just. Weird. I'll get used to it, but it'll take a while."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Tell me anything I can do to help?" Anything at all! She worried about him! "You've been waking yourself up worrying haven't you? I swear you haven't been getting four hours..."

"I've been getting my four hours!" he said, shaking his head, "But, yeah, it's taking longer to get my four hours than it should."

[mitochondriaaya]

She reached up to take his hand, wrapping her fingers in his as they walked. "Well, that's better than I thought," she'd been half waking up in the night with him awake when he shouldn't be! "I can still worry though!"

"I know. I'm sorry." Dilan said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze, "I don't mean to make you worry."

[mitochondriaaya]

"And I don't mean to make you guys worry so I guess it all balances out!" Aya chuckled softly. "Think Braig will kill us for shopping without him?"

"Not as long as I come out looking reasonably okay." Dilan said, laughing, "It's just my taste he doesn't trust."

[mitochondriaaya]

"You'll come out looking amazing," Aya promised cheerfully. "I just never can tell if Braig actually enjoys shopping or just dressing us up...so he could be sad he missed this." Granted, if it was just the dressing up bit he could demand a fashion show of Dilan and be happy!

"I dunno." Dilan said, "I don't really get fashion. It's all just body-coverings to me."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Because fashion is stupid," Aya pointed out. "I don't think any of us wear fashionable stuff unless we have to go to one of Elcy's fundraisers or something." And those were picked by Elcy, Yinsi, and sometimes Braig so they didn't need to understand fashion anyway.

"Clothing on the other hand is easy. Protection against the elements and public decency you know. As long as nothing makes anyone else's eyes bleed or anything you're good!"

"Yeah, but I have Katzu eyes." Dilan pointed out, "And I still don't get why chartreuse and lavender don't go together."
