"I guess they do, at that." Jos said, not bothering to follow Kyle's look.

Mudge was tugging on one of Breaker's dreads affectionately, and Breaker was letting him get away with it. Those purple eyes, though, they met Kyle's with a brief gleam.

...yeah, his timing for glancing over sucked apparently. Of course Breaker would be looking up then. He almost, almost facepalmed. Hopefully he wouldn't have to do this again, fun as some of it had been he was remembering all over again why he hadn't wanted to come out of the gym tonight.

It all boiled down to 'Breaker is into me' and he wasn't sure how well be could keep his cool in those conditions. It was nice when he could forget it but that wasn't working tonight. "Been a pleasure, but this guy has a shift tomorrow. Thanks for the company!" he called after finishing his drink.

"Good night, detective." Breaker said in a calm, even tone. That, at least, betrayed nothing.

The other men called goodbyes of their own as Kyle left.

A few hours later, Hackett and Dilan wandered into the apartment, laughing their asses off.

Aya was sitting in a large, slightly damp t-shirt, legs wrapped around Sheeva as the dog tried to wiggle too much for the after-bath brushing to be effective. Granted, she wasn't trying to wiggle away, she just really liked being brushed! Her first attempt to greet the men got an ear in her mouth. After spitting fur out she grinned. "You two are in good moods. And this would be Hackett? You know you're one of my heroes right?"

"Hey, nice to meet you...Aya, right?" Hackett flopped onto the broken couch so that he could get out of the way while Dilan headed for the kitchen.

"Let me guess," Dilan said, "Braig is trying to mop up the bathroom in a vain attempt to make it look like tsunami Sheeva wasn't in there."

"That would be me, and this is Sheeva! Welcome homeish!" Aya grinned and got Sheeva to sit still long enough to offer a hand to Hackett. "There's lasagnas in the oven staying warm, meat, mixed, and veggie if you want to whip up some bread to go with or something Dilan?" Since he was poking in the kitchen!

"And Braig is probably at the hanging his head in his hands stage...or getting the light fixture down to drain water out of the glass." Sheeva. Loved. Baths.

"Pleased to meet you." Hackett said with a smile.

"Bread," Dilan said, "would take several hours, Aya."

"We have two loaves left in the fridge, Dilan. I wasn't asking for magic bread, just herby bread!" Better than garlic bread was the mixes Dilan tended to make and toast on bread!

"So...fill me in evil while I finish with the wiggle butt here?"

"Fair enough." Dilan said, laughing and going to mix up a garlic/herb base.

"Well, he took my number for the precinct." Hackett said, rubbing Sheeva's damp ears. "So there's that. I think Dilan, there, had him freaking out over sexuality again. Hey, Braig."

"It's the little joys." Dilan said.

"Hey, dude. Good to see you." Braig said, beelining for Dilan.

"I try to be fair!" she called cheerfully, starting in on Sheeva again. Oh elements, the pup did not know what to do! Wiggle for brushing or flop for ear petting and...ended up doing half and half! Hackett needed half a damp German shepherd sprawled on his lap, right?

"And to be fair it's hard not to watch Dilan, though I'll have to go out of my way to mention that it looked like Breaker had fun." Just to make Kyle flush and mutter at her! "Will you be alright getting pulled deeper into this Hackett? I know Vice isn't your general department."

He could live with it. "This is old Sheeva, isn't it? I heard she got retired."

Braig and Dilan were saying hello. It was fairly involved.

"Yeah, I've been getting extra classes in it since I got pulled in the first time." Hackett said with a laugh, "It's...interesting. And somewhat terrifying."

"Yes, she was retired. She's been kind enough to come stay with us though, and I'll take her with me when we're done." She adored her dog, she truly did. Sheeva was going to be so spoiled. "Hmmm, if you're going to be around more as Mudge we need to decide how Sheeva should react o you when you meet in public." That was an important factor!

And it was obviously time for Aya to pause in brushing to reach over and touch Hackett's shoulder gently. "I know. It is terrifying but I think you can handle it from what I heard."

"Mmmm. Neutrally? Mudge is one of Breaker's...uh. Regulars?" Hackett laughed, "And, man, is it weird hanging all over my best bud."

"Could be worse!" Dilan said, coming back in with his hand firmly on Braig's ass, "You could be hanging all over your best bud's man."

"We can work with neutral," Aya admitted. "When we're not at the apartment and she's mooning over you!" Because Sheeva was totally taking over his lap, inch by inch! And they tried to keep a clear line between 'in the apartment' and 'outside under cover' with Sheeva too.

"At least he's not a stranger?" Aya offered with a soft smile up at the boys. "Darlene's a bit affectionate and I didn't know these two from Adam when this assignment started."

Hackett was fine with being covered in damp dog. "I worked with Sheeva a couple of times. She's just trying to see if I've got doggy treats in my pockets."

The boys smiled back and settled onto the ground, Braig leaning up against Dilan's chest, "Yeah. It was awesome that things worked out as well as they did...this could have been really fuckin' awkward."

Hey, at least if she was focused on getting into Hackett's lap she was holding still enough for Aya to get at that under coat! "Uh-oh, treats. Yes, because we never fee dher. Or give into her begging stare and slip her tidbits. No, never." Aya tweaked the dog's tail and laughed.

"And if the initial idea had been awkward we'd have worked the covers around," Aya chuckled. "Else Kyle would have had too much of an entry point and no one wants me living with him."

"Of course not, her life is a terribly hard thing." Hackett said soberly.

"Yeah, no." Braig shuddered, "Not at all."

"She's a tough puppy in a harsh world," Aya agreed mournfully. "And she'd panic if we lived with Kyle. It'd be a very short case with him mauled." As fun as the mental image was!

"Anyway, awkward aside, I'm glad you're here Hackett. Also? I took Braig hitting me with a pillow to stop giggling the when I heard you went by Mudge."

Hackett grinned, "I don't have the balls to work homicide...I tried, I lasted one dead body...but I'm fascinated with serial killers."

"I choked when he introduced himself as that." Dilan admitted, shaking his head, "I was afraid that I was going to blow it right there."

"Homicide doesn't take balls, Hackett, it takes just the right turn of mind. Most people can't handle bodies!" She'd...been slotted for Homicide before Vice made grabby hands. She was pretty sure that she made more of difference here! "He didn't warn you? You didn't warn him? BAD FRIEND! Bad!" Yes, he was getting bopped playfully.

Hackett just grinned, "What can I say?"

"Sorry would be good." mock grumble.

"But not true."

Aya laughed and waved her brush at the all the boys in general, "Yeah, he's your friend all right." Utterly and completely! "That's alright, you can get revenge some day I'm sure."

Braig laughed, "I'm glad you like him." he said to Aya, while Hackett kept Sheeva steady.

"Trusting your judgement hasn't been a mistake s far," Aya laughed and smiled at Braig. "So people you enjoy spending time with have to be worth while don't they?"

"Most of 'em." he said, grinning.

"Everyone's got that one friend, you know?"
