Aya AU: meeting Cat

Dilan is hanging out near the station, waiting for Aya to get off work. Every now and then his hair makes a semi-disgruntled mrrp? noise. The reason for that is the small black cat who is not in the cat carrier at his feet.

Dilan waves again, cheerfully, as he's led off and he leans down, "I like him."

[mitochondriaaya]

"He's hard not to like." she admitted, standing on tiptoe to mock-whisper in his ear "Unless you're one of his special projects. Then you whimper when you see him." she laughed.

"Alright, mens locker room there." she nudged him with a hip "Through the blue door in the back to the pool. You'll hits stairs before the pool though, it's a level down."

"Right. See you down there, then." he kisses her gently and then turns to go get dressed.

She lingered a moment, watching the mens room door swing close, then shifted her gaze down the hall to the grinning Nara. She was going to hear about kissing people in the gym later, she just knew it. Oh well.

With a cheerful grin she went off to change into her training suit and dash down to the pool. Belated she realized that maaaaybe she should have picked up a better suit.

Maybe.

Oh well. She'd live.

Needless to say, Dilan did not pick out his suit.

He comes out later, having made sure he's cleaned of anything that might clog the pool. (it's a scientist thing. When given a shower, they SHOWER.)

Meh, Aya used the rinse showers for a moment by the poolside? They were cold though. By the time Dilan came out she was at the pool edge, doing leg lifts with ankle weights on. Training killed time?

...but that was a distracting bathing suit. Very. Ummm. Not black. Or gray. "...wow. I've never seen you in blue I think."

"Nope." Dilan says, laughing, "Braig picked it out, not me. Shall I join you?"

"It's a nice color?" she offered. She wasn't sure about the whole Hawaiian print thing though, so she left it at that. "Well, if just want to stand there..." she teased.

"It was that or start swimming without you, human." he says, running a finger across her hair and then diving into the pool.

He's been swimming his whole life. And it shows.

"I see..." she managed before he dove. Then it was time to just watch. Really, he hadn't been joking when he offered eye candy...

Yep, her exercises were on auto pilot, as she was all about the almost goofy grinning as she tracked him under the water.

He goes from one end to the other before surfacing, then bursts out for a deep breath. Then he starts doing laps, one way above, the other way under.

Anyone else she might envy the lung capacity. Dilan was a special case though, so she set her elbows on her knees and rested her chin on her cradled hands. Maybe she could bribe him to swim for her on her bad days?

Dilan smiles at her and pauses, "Going to join me?"

The question actually made her blink and shake her head to clear the grin "Hmmm? Harder to watch my eye candy then..." she teased, but she did start unstrapping the training weights. Training was all well and good, but keeping up was better?

"Well, yeah, but you can see me again later." Dilan laughs softly, "I don't mind being on display for you?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"That's reassuring I guess..." she noted, not exactly sure how to respond to that one. She flexed her ankles a moment, then stood to return the weights to their home. No point in having Nara tease her for laxness.

"Though you're going to really spoil me if I start expecting these things..." she laughed, then slipped into a shallow, distance eating dive. She...swam for a purpose?

"If a spoiled Aya is a happy Aya, bring on the spoilage." Dilan chirps.

When she surfaced she wrinkled her nose at him "I think I'd end up confused after too much." she admitted as she tread water. Yes, the pool was much deeper than Aya was tall. "But moments are perfectly acceptable."

"Hey, I'd like you to get used to being happy more often than not." Dilan says quietly.

[mitochondriaaya]

She blinked pool water out of her eyes, then nibbled her lower lip a moment. She wasn't exactly sure how to phrase what she was trying to convey...

"You're very distracting, Dilan." not quite it, but a start. "Happy moments get me through the week, but it's a rough job. I have to be used to the mind set I'm in most of the week and grateful for the happy moments."

"Aya, babe, that's not healthy." Dilan says, stopping for a moment and then floundering before he makes it to a point where he can stand on the bottom, "Physically."

Yeah, obviously she totally blew the phrasing. Fuck. She didn't move to follow him, just tread water as she thought things over.

"I've been doing it almost all my life Dilan. It's...it makes the happy moments special." she lifted her hands to shrug and ended up dunking herself a moment before she restored her above water status. "I'm not saying it right...but it's like the difference between never noticing something is wonderful but you see it all the time...and cherishing something for it's wonder...am I making any sense?"

"That doesn't mean it's healthy." he says again, helplessly, "Because it can really fuck up your body, not to mention your heart and soul."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, well..." she wasn't agreeing. She wasn't arguing either. She just...didn't know what to say. It hadn't killed her yet? And the psych evals were still fine across the board.

"I'm very good at my job." she sighed at last. Laps were good. Yeah. Swimming.

"I know. But I will worry." he says with a shrug, then goes back to doing his laps as well.
