Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"Well, that complicates things." she pointed out reasonably. "And there's a fair share of guys who don't want to say that too, by the way." she teased softly.

"Thanks for clearing that up though."

"But I don't kiss guys, sweetheart." Dilan says reasonably, "So it never comes up in my life."

"Sure it does" she countered "You obviously have male friends. Don't they talk about these things?" she could actually claim ignorance on her part of the equation.

She hadn't had a girlfriend since...way back in college. And those two, well. They'd been enthusiastic about a lot of things.

"The kind of guys I hang out with fall into the categories of girls! I like kissing them!, gay, and scientist. These categories are not always as separate as you might think, although the gay scientists tend not to date women at all."

"Damn, well then, my mistake." she chuckled. The precinct? They were like a large, loud family. They kind of talked about everything eventually. Or you heard it talked about around you. Same difference sometimes.

Deductive reasoning placed Dilan in the 'scientist who enjoys kissing girls' category. She didn't need to ask. "I'll have to subject you to the guys sometime."

"Wouldn't mind it." Dilan says, giving her shoulders a gentle squeeze.

It is important to remember that Dilan, for all his - Dilanness - is still a member of a very insular and focused group.

As was Aya, in her own way. She was pretty sure the precinct boys wouldn't turn on him? Tease, god yes, but they wouldn't turn on him. "Glad to hear it." and she was. Not a lot of people actually agreed to meeting cops.

"I can show you the bars and restaurants you know and love after they convert to cop joints!"

"Pshaw. Police have never stopped me from going to a place in my life." Dilan says comfortably, "But it'd be more fun to go with you."

"No..." she chuckled "...they don't try to keep people out." she agreed. "It's just a lot more fun from the inside."

She sipped her coffee quietly for a few minutes, running through dates in her head "A Thursday evening perhaps."

Dilan grins, "Just let me know which one."

"I'll figure it out." she promised simply. She could manage it, if she did grocery shopping and and cooking earlier than she usually did.

And it'd be fun. "Hell, I bring you, the boys may even let me keep one of the pool tables for a little while..."

"I'm willing to abuse my size for a pool table." Dilan agrees, "Although the place we met still has the best in town."

"'Meeting' implies exchanging names more than ricocheting" she teased. Didn't mean she wasn't smiling though!

"I prefer Frank's at about four a.m. after last call and before he heads home for the morning...'" she noted. "And without the boys who think I'm one part mascot, one part adorable, and the rest part easy to bully into other things besides pool..." she laughed. She allowed it, some times. She liked pool though.

"Fair enough." Dilan says with a smile, "Just saying that the tables are good. I'm afraid that I have to agree with the adorable, though. Not the mascot or easy to bully, but the adorable."

"Considering I haven't been able to beat that particular term out of the boys to date, I'll have to allow it on your part." she replied solemnly.

"I warn you though, there will be a reckoning! Eventually at any rate. If I ever have spare time and some megalomania..."

"But what if I like megalomania in blonds?" Dilan asks whimsically, "I mean, then it'd just be a vicious cycle of maiming, adorableness, and maiming."

"Hmmm, I think the background check may have turned up known associations with megalomaniacs..." she laughed "But if it's a developing interest, I'll keep you in mind if I manage to pick it up as a hobby."

"I'd end up feeling bad about maiming though. I may have to develop other mental disorders prior to megalomania. Build up a skill seeeeejesus!" she yipped as her phone ringer went off at full volume.

Alarm. Right. In case she fell asleep.

Dilan would respond, but his open mouth was over Aya's head when she jumped and he's just going to sit here for several long, long moments being grateful that his tongue was out of the way of his teeth when the skull of his pseudo-date cracked into his jaw.

She got that sharp, swimming sensation in her head that meant she'd turned just wrong in a bout...and yeah. There was the dizziness coming in. She didn't hit the mats though, therefore...she really had clocked Dilan.

Jesus fucking Christ she clocked Dilan?!

"Fucking hell son of Sam and bloody Mary." she swore as she slipped from under his arm to better kneel on their seat bench and examine his jaw with very, very careful fingers.

"I'm fine." Dilan says, "Heavier bones than you. Really. It just jarred the hell out of me." he reaches up to cover her fingers with his hand and give it a gentle squeeze, "You'd have to hit me a lot harder to do anything more than bruise. Probably with a chair or something."

Then, after a pause,

"You cuss by serial killers?"

She wasn't immediately reassured. Not by a long shot. She'd known far too many guys who tended to brush off injuries and yeah. She was just going to make sure...

She stayed as she was for a few moments longer before she squeezed his fingers back and slipped back down onto the seat. Safely away from his jaw this time. "Sometimes." she admitted. The offending phone was retrieved from her pocket and a quick text to Danny fired off, then she sighed and leaned back.

"I'm sorry. I forgot I asked Ben to set it to something obnoxious." Just...Jesus. "I'm sorry"

"Heavier bones, Aya." Dilan says, "I weigh going on three hundred pounds, a human my size and build would be about two seventy, max. It's fine."

He reaches out and pulls her back against himself. "Really."

Aya was tiny. Delicate would have been the term if she hadn't worked so hard to be toned. But she was small. And fragile looking...and she utterly and completely believed she could have truly injured him. It took her several minutes to slowly relax back into Dilan's side, but she managed.

"The swearing thing..." she sighed. "I picked it up when my Uncle and I didn't want my dad to know his little girl could swear." she offered.

"That's fair." Dilan says, smiling a little, "I think it's an interesting thing for a cop to do."

See how he avoids cute? Yes.

"Yeah, it wasn't meant to hold over through college and into cophood." she chuckled. "Though it's funny to see Pierce's 'list of severity' posted in the sound van..."
