Vice AU - Vacation

Dilan needed a break before the others did, although not by much. He needed to recover from having been ill, and he REALLY needed a good workout or seven. Spending the time in Aya's apartment wasn't bad, and after his first trip to Nara's gym he came back to spend some time watching TV and doing his hair.

Which is why when Ben got in there was a seven foot tall fluffy Katzu wearing a towel and a hell of a lot of piercings lounging in front of the TV with wax.

"It's not really common." Dilan said, cheerfully, "But it can happen. You have to get a special license to do it."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh, so extra lines and you get a card when you marry more than one person? Like a driver's license?" Details, details, details? He could MISINTERPRET EVERY ONE OF THEM! "Good luck getting married!"

He just. Wasn't going to go there. Nope. Aya could explain when she got back. "Thanks. It hinges on finding the right woman."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Yeah, everyone says finding the right person is important before you get married but people do it anyway." Hence, bad marriages and divorces! "Maybe you can ask Aya to help? She knows some cool ladies!" Mostly other cops but hey!

"Maybe." Dilan agreed, "Not now, obviously, it would be awkward." Most of who they knew were also cops.

[mitochondriaaya]

"Well, yeah, not now! She's doing cop stuff! Maybe next time you're both wherever and on a break though you can ask her." Why would it be awkward?

"The lady at the grocery down the street is really nice too?"

"I tend to scare most normal nice people." Dilan pointed out, waving at his metal filled face, "It's usually best for me to be introduced to people."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Oh. Huh." That...honestly hadn't occurred to him! The main worry had been Stranger, followed by Naked, the metal just really hadn't rated! "If you're gonna be here a week I can introduce you!"

"Thanks, but nah. She'd have to meet Braig, too, and he's still under." Also: awkward. Very awkward to be introduced by a pre-teen.

He was trying to be a helpful semi-host! Besides, what was wrong with a twelve year old doing an introduction if the twelve year old KNEW adults?!

Bah.

"That's cool. How does that work really? Do you guys go one dates all together? Isn't that more like hanging out?" Yes, he was twelve...but girls were a little interesting so...

"Depends on the woman and the event." Dilan said, "We usually go out on at least a few all together at the beginning, then it depends on interests and scheduling. What's important is that everyone feels like an equal partner in the relationship."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Huh. That...can't be easy." Because his dad had said, before the shooting, that when you found the person you loved they were most important in the world. That couldn't be easy with MORE THAN ONE.

Who was MOST in a group?!

"Good luck?"

Love was confusing at best. "Thanks." Dilan said, "It's not an easy path we've picked, but it works for us."

[mitochondriaaya]

But worth it maybe? Eh, who knew. "That's cool. I'll try to remember to ask Aya about helping you guys!" And that was that!

"So...you gonna get dressed before food?"

[sliceitwithwind]

"Yeah, I am. Stir the rice, would you?" Dilan got up (carefully) and went to go get dressed. He could finish his hair after dinner (and possibly talk Ben into helping twist).

Ben would help as best he was able if asked! "Okay!" He could stir! Sadly it involved a stool, but HE WOULD GROW HONEST! "How much? Does it need stuff in it?" It was normal to have conversations down a hall right?

Right!

"Hey, you're staying in Aya's room right?" Because the workout room didn't have a bed...

"Yeah, I am." he called back, "Just enough to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pot, it's already got it's stuff in. You don't mind that I'm in there, right? I'm a little big for the couch."

[mitochondriaaya]

"Okay, no sticking, got it!" Deep, scrapey kind of stirring to make sure nothing was on the bottom! "Huh...it's a little weird. She does have a big bed though, which is also weird cause she's short." His life was full of weird.

"She trusts you though right? So it's okay."

"Yup." This is Dilan, deciding not to mention that they've been sleeping in the same bed for since early December (minus when he was sick). "If she didn't, she wouldn't have loaned me her key."

[mitochondriaaya]

Yeah...that little fact would make Ben stare at him. Granted, Aya was a little touchy, mitochondrials apparently were but...people didn't sleep in Aya's bed. She stole pillows, she nested, but she only slept with people when they fell asleep on the couch together.

"Yeah, that's true. And she wouldn't have told the front door guy you could come in." Secure building meant secure here really, no matter his initial impression. "...so that's me, Chief Baker, and you! We're the people who have been here! Cool huh?" Aya liked to call her little apartment her sanctuary.

She wasn't really kidding. It was a quiet, safe place.

"Yeah, that is." he agreed, "That's...really kind of an awesome feeling." It was! Aya liked him! (He liked her a lot, but wasn't exactly telling her that).

[mitochondriaaya]

"I know right?" Cool huh! And Ben HAD HIS OWN ROOM! Speaking of..."Do you play video games? I have to finish my homework first but then if you want we can totally play games!" After food anyway.

Everything right now came after food.

"Or, you know, you can relax and I can play games in my room." Loft. Whatever. Semi-private and away from the guest who needed to relax!

"Some. Braig is better at them than I am, but I think they're fun. I'd be happy to play with you after you're done with your homework...what time do you have to be in bed?"

[mitochondriaaya]

"Huh, I hope he gets to come here some time so he cna play." Ben liked good players! And fun players! "I go to bed at nine, 'cause I gotta get up early to get to my school. It's not very close to here." Aya kept trying to talk his mom into the school near the apartment, it had a better reputation, but Lorraine...didn't like Aya.

"Hopefully at some point." Dilan said, nodding. Then, after a pause, "So that he doesn't startle you if he's here some day, I should warn you. Braig is kind of short, although not as short as you are, and he's missing an eye. He looks pretty rough around the edges, but he's a great guy."
