Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"I don't know." Dilan says, "I'm better than I used to be, when I met Ienzo's mother I had a panic attack at her. She sends me cherries now."

Mmmm.

Cherries.

Mmmmmmmmmm.

"The poor woman..." she sighed. Yes, she was grinning, but she wasn't laughing "I'm not sure what I'd have done if you'd panicked at me." she chuckled.

"Cherries are a really good sign."

"...Probably not gone out with me." Dilan says after a moment, "And that would have been a terrible thing indeed."

"Point taken. You'd have made a hell of a lot less of an impression on Danny." she chuckled softly. "He doesn't handle panic well..." And Dilan had made an impression, so...

Well. Danny was going to gloat. A lot.

"See? A crying shame, it would have been." Dilan says cheerfully, "And now, well, now I've gotten to see you twice. So I'm very grateful that you're who you are."

That...was actually really weird to hear. Not that she could argue, being as how she was very comfortably tucked against his side...but it was still weird. And she just couldn't shake the feeling...

...well. She very deliberately reached out and knocked on the table in front of them. Last thing she wanted was him to make a statement like that then end up regretting it. So, best to ward against the jinx right? "Truth told, Dilan? I'm not minding my partner's interference so much in this case."

"Good." Dilan says comfortably, "Because I'm pretty grateful to him myself."

"I'll let him know. He'll be smug." she promised lightly after one last, quick knock on the table. "And he'll probably end up dangling you over my head, metaphorically speaking, in every argument we have for the next few months..."

She adored her partner. She also knew he tended to cling to examples of 'I was right'.

"He can't do that until we have a second date-not-for-other-purposes." Dilan says, "He's breaking a guy rule if he does."

What?

He's totally willing to explain guy-rules to someone like Aya.

"Doesn't mean he can't gear up for it. He only has to wait until after Wednesday after all." she pointed out lightly. What? She had no intention of breaking their plans so...

"Unless you only want to count the initial 'date' as a partial due to interruption?"

"Most people would take that as a wee bit of a stumbling block." Dilan agrees cheerfully.

"Well then, give me a value for day one so I can fend off my partner." she laughed. Laughing was a hell of a lot easier than admitting he was right...where most meant 'all' recently.

"Call it one third of a date." Dilan suggests, "We got into the small-talk part, but then there was a work related interruption which totally blew off the awkward how-do-we-end-this, moving it to the second date."

"So I've tallied up a whole third? Wow, Danny will be thrilled." she chuckled. It was more than she was expecting, actually.

"Do we really have to drag through an awkward phase to get to two? I rather prefer comfortable..."

"Afraid so. It's the do I kiss? Do I shake hands? thing." Dilan says sagely, "There is always awkward before that's figured out."

"Well, that's easily circumvented." she shrugged against his arm slightly. "Do I have permission to kiss you at some future point now or should I ask prior to decision on my part?" she was a practical girl.

"You have permission to kiss me any time you want." Dilan says simply, "I'd enjoy it."

"And that's that." she chuckled softly. "Besides, shaking hands with a date is just really weird. I don't think I've actually done it..." she mused thoughtfully.

There'd been punches, hip chucks, sheer avoidance....but no. No shaking.

"It's polite, non-invasive, and a great way to default if leaning in for a kiss gets a rejection." Dilan says, "It's the perfect response."

"Huh" she mused. "I always kind of saw it as half-assed. If you don't like touching your date, don't. If you try for a kiss, at least succeed or fail honestly." Aya...didn't mind falling on her ass in social situations. She always got back up after all.

"It's slightly less awkward than leaning in, having the girl back up, and trying to pretend you didn't actually lean in." Dilan says with a shrug, "I'm not going to press something that makes someone uncomfortable, but I'm also not going to leave her hanging and possibly feeling bad because she was uncomfortable."

She was actually quiet as she thought that one over, then chuckled softly "So, guys don't want the 'Thanks for the offer, but no' comment instead of backing away?" she wasn't good at backing down. Or away. Or whatever.

...it was easy to see why Danny took a hand in dating life.

"That works too." Dilan says, "But some girls don't want to say that."

"Well, that complicates things." she pointed out reasonably. "And there's a fair share of guys who don't want to say that too, by the way." she teased softly.

"Thanks for clearing that up though."

"But I don't kiss guys, sweetheart." Dilan says reasonably, "So it never comes up in my life."
