"I'll take it as my biologic due for being so short?" she laughed. "...and keep an eye out for the flip side." no telling what she was missing in order to heal well. Probably a susceptibility to something rare and weird like Jungle Fever?

"Hmmm, no. Routine." she shrugged.

"Righty, then." Dilan says, herding her toward the first test.

And then each in order, until about two in the morning when he says, "Now it's waiting on results. Want to grab breakfast?"

"And all of this may give you a slight idea why magic is a pain?" she asked easily as scooped her jacket back up.

"...sure." she had to be back at the station in a few hours anyway. "Some place with coffee?" it'd be a pleading look if it weren't for the grin.

"I don't want to say anything before I have results back." Dilan cautions, "So lets go with not yet. I'd hate to be wrong. Of course coffee, Aya. Coffee is like blood for scientists as well as cops. Did you drive, or are we taking the bus?"

"I did say 'may'" she pointed out teasingly "But I can understand your reserve."

"Coffeeeee" she laughed, holding open the door for him "I only drive when the precinct makes me. Bus...to someplace open. You know your area here..."

"So I do." Dilan says, stepping through the door and exchanging his labcoat for an overcoat, "Cybel's is open at this hour, and they have really great deals on breakfast food."

"...not a cop dive. Occasionally we get called to dump a rowdy college kid or two though." she noted. It was fun to compare mental maps?

"Potato pancakes?" she asked cheerfully before glancing at her watch and then up and down the street. "Well. Damn. Crappy transit hours."

"It's a good place, though." Dilan points out, "Mmm. Point. Cab it is." he pulls out a phone and dials, then leans against a convenient tree, "Potato pancakes are an option. I'm going to go the Belgian waffle with mixed berries route, and several sides of dead animal."

"Or walking between stops until a bus actually appears..." she noted. She was easy. And it was actually almost fun to walk through New York when it was quiet.

Quieter.

"Sweet meals kinda bug me..." she admitted. "I can eat waffles, but I have to separate everything on them and kinda eat it all in stages." she ordered them when she was in the mood...and had time to fiddle. "The protein I can get behind though."

"I don't like sucrose." Dilan says, "But Belgian waffles, with Devon double cream and real fruit aren't really sweet. They're just rich. Really, really rich. Meat is what I'm supposed to eat the most of, like humans are supposed to have vegetable heavy diets."

"Rich, and sweeter than a meal should be." she chuckled. "I worked really hard to define 'meal' foods when I was a kid. It's really hard to work outside those definitions now." she did try. Very hard at times. Hence managing Belgian waffles sometimes!

"Hmmm, you don't have them on the line yet right?" she asked, motioning to the phone. "Let's walk."

"Not yet." Dilan agrees, hanging up and striking out at a relaxed amble that is used to dealing with someone her size. His best friend has been his best friend a long time, "Gotcha. My species needs enough calories that I tend to go for the richest possible foods at a time. And meat."

And Aya's partner was six foot, she was used to stretching her legs a little...between them they probably managed a comfortable pace?

"That's understandable." she admitted easily. "And I can handle savory richness for my own meals, but sweet of any type has to wait until after some semblance of real food." her coworkers thought it was the funniest thing ever that she wouldn't touch donuts.

"...what kind of meat actually goes well with Belgian waffles?" she asked after a few moments of trying out combination in her own head. Maple sausage maybe? "Or does that not so much matter?"

"I don't do sugar, Aya." Dilan says again, "So my waffles aren't sweet the way that I think you're expecting, at all. I generally have bacon, steak, and sometimes grilled chicken with breakfasts."

"Yeah, I got that. Waffle is a sweet bread though, fruit is sweet...so that's actually along the lines I'm expecting. It's not so much a 'sugary' thing as the sheer sweet taste." she admitted. "On my good days I can have bagels with fruit in them as a meal? And I worked through muffins before I started bagels."

"Snacks are another thing entirely." she pointed out. It was...a mental hang up. She knew that. "It's just a thing. They do a good steak?" because steak suddenly sounded like a really good idea.

"...But fruit is good for your species." Dilan says in confusion, "That's odd, Aya, sorry. Although if you're good with muffins, I have a thing about them..."

"And yes. They do a great steak."

"I know. I just can't make myself eat fruit as a meal. I tend to eat it afterward, or between meals just fine..." she admitted.

"You have a thing about muffins?" she asked curiously.

"Obsessive thing. I make them every day." Dilan admits.

"It took me awhile, but I've been through the gamut of muffins. As long as you don't make chocolate chip muffins as a breakfast food, we're good." she shrugged. "And cayenne muffins are really weird."

"Any reason you started with the muffin baking?"

"I don't like chocolate." Dilan says with a wince, "My best friend's mother taught me to make them the day of my mom's funeral. It became a comfort thing."

"I can understand that." she admitted quietly. And when things were needed so much as comfort anymore they were still ways to remember...and she wasn't OCD. Yeah.

"Even really dark, bitter chocolate?" she asked curiously.

"Unsweetened, straight cacao isn't bad." he says with a shrug.

Well, there went her standard birthday ideas. Damn. Well, if it came to that, she'd figure something out. "I don't envy you." she teased gently.

"Guess I stick to thermoses of cider and coffee if we do get you to a snowball fight."

"Strawberries are like pixie sticks to my metabolism, Aya." Dilan says with amusement, "Go for coffee, unsweetened."

"...given my last experience with pixie sticks, I'm really, really tempted to see your strawberry high." the mental image if Dilan bouncing was amusing as hell.

"Lots of coffee, but cider for the kid. Ben's going and coffee isn't good at his age." Ben didn't do cocoa due to a mild milk intolerance...and decent cocoa was made with milk, so...
