Aya AU

The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

She let out a low whistle and grinned "You started early." she noted teasingly. "Not that I blame you. If you have to be 'cute' you may as well. I'd have given my dad a heart attack if I tried any kind of dating at thirteen."

"Dad still would have lost it. Innocent or no." she chuckled "Once he got his head on straight he worried a lot. Besides, life failed me there. No one remotely attractive at my schools, unless you're into the football type." it'd been a pity really.

"College had more options. Hmmm, so you've had the dread locks since you were a kid?"

"When I say 'into the football type' I meant that was the predominant physical ideal." she shrugged "You had to hunt down down everyone else, and I didn't have the time."

She eyed the dreadlocks a moment, then pulled up the memories of how they'd felt at the diner. Yep. "Had to be hell to maintain before dreadlocking." she chuckled. "But at least your control method looks damn good."

"I'll keep that in mind if it ever happens." mental note made, she flexed an ankle then nodded to the paths "I usually come at it from the other end. I'm not sure which one the bridge is on..."

And, just because she was curious "So, washing and wax, twisting...time consuming but how often does it have to be done?" his dreadlocks were interesting?

"Worth it" she noted. A rare admission from her given that she was rather fanatic about getting her hair cut to manageable lengths. Safer and easier that way.

"It really disturbs me that you still get in bar fights with that much hair to grab hold of, but...worth it."

"Hmmm, yep, prefer the dreadlocks." they were far more appealing than a shaved head. "And your cat would be very disappointed." she agreed.

She could smell the water now, though the creek was hidden by another dip in the path. "I'm just never going to let you near one or two of my old training instructors."

"Hey" she grinned, glancing up at him, because, really, he had a gaze you could feel "We wouldn't make you shave your head. Just...point out why shorter hair would be very, very good for you." she had to defend the cops after all!

"And if you were a cop we wouldn't be out here skating, so I'm not complaining."

"Well, given your track record, you'd think you'd expect them by now." she teased. It wasn't the largest file she'd seen by a long shot but...

"And no. I have to be able to work with them. Any of them at any time. Dating in that atmosphere really screws things up." she admitted "And they give female cops hell over dating anyway, so best not to give them fodder." she chuckled.

"Right. Should have realized..." she chuckled softly about his comment on laziness.

"Angry exes...no." she agreed. People tended to get over her really quickly when she didn't match up to their ideal "Overly curious cops though? We'll see about that one. They can be worse."

"I hope you can keep that nonchalance in the face of a precinct..." She reached out to knock on a passing tree. Just in case. Best not to jinx it!

"It'll probably be something like a combination between exes and older brothers..."

"Dilan, I have to ask seriously, are you insane?" she asked laughingly. Really, tackling the boys when they were being...well, precinct boys wasn't her idea of fun. But it was an amusing picture.

Even more amusing was the dead end that the path they were on ended up being. A slight hill and then the creek flowing just beyond the patch of beaten earth...

She braked neatly beside him and slipped her hands in her pockets as she mulled that one over. "Well, put that way it's slightly less terrifying a prospect." she admitted.

"I still reserve the right to be embarrassment if necessary." though she wasn't very good at that "Or kick them." It probably wouldn't surprise Dilan that most of the precinct boys would corner him away from Aya.
