The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"Well, she's missing an eye." Dilan points out, "And she's got a lot of scars."

"...yeah, I've never seen that as potential for face eating." she admitted. "You really want to be afraid of the ones that look perfect." anyone. Cats. People.

"Then again, we are talking about the collective IQ of reporters, so..."

"Yeah. On the bright side, the Humane Society loves me." Dilan says with good cheer.

"Always a plus." she admitted easily. "I'm noticing a trend. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground when it comes to people's opinions of you..." she teased.

"Pretty much, nope." Dilan agrees, "I'm not really a middle-ground kind of guy."

"Eh, makes for an interesting life I bet." she admitted with a grin. In a way it was refreshing. There were way to many people out there who were...indecisive? Willing to compromise? She'd figure that one out later.

"Woah!" Dilan grins and shifts into a crouch to maximize his speed and emits a high-pitched noise.

It's pretty disturbing, and manages to get everyone's attention long enough for them to get out of the way.

Aya didn't crouch. She was doing her damnedest to just stay on her feet as gravity kicked it. At least she had enough natural balance to pull off the 'I meant to do that' look?

"Jesus Christ did you swallow a kazoo as a child?!" she laughed at the bottom. For the record? Dilan made a handy balancing point once she got herself stopped.

Dilan grins at her, "Nah. I just spent a lot of time realizing that singing? Not happening. High-pitched annoying noises, on the other hand, got me out of lots of attempts at trying to teach me."

"And we're so grateful for the skills life forced you pick up." she teased wryly. "Couldn't you get a waiver for skipping out on lessons? Developing a squawking repertoire seems kind of...elaborate."

"Aya - I graduated high school at fourteen." Dilan says, blinking down at her, "As a pre-teen trying to get out of band and choir making annoying noises made perfect sense. I was a boy."

"You know, I'm kind of glad I missed most social activities for that age group." she noted after a moment to trying to understand how it made sense "I'd have driven myself nuts trying to figure the the guys out."

At least adult men made a little more sense? Kinda any way.

"Aya?" Dilan says after a minute, "I - didn't think I'd ever need to point this out, but you're a girl. At that age you wouldn't have been spending time with kids like me anyway."

She eyed him as if that concept was as utterly alien as the previous. "You're joking, right?"...he's not.

Damn it.

"Okay, I was weird at fourteen?"

"By fourteen it would have been fine. But I was trying to get out of middle-school choir at eight to ten." Dilan explains with another laugh.

"Still weird at eight to ten." she noted after a moment. "Though I was even less social during those particular years so I'll have to take your word on it." she mused.

"I really, really thought people were joking when they talked about cooties and such." as a mass behavior not as an actual disease!

"I always assumed cooties was a human thing." Dilan says with a shrug, "But there was just - a divide. I don't know, I'm a biologist, not a sociologist."

"If I'd been paying attention I'd have probably noticed it?" she could believe it existed. Really! "I was just dealing with being the only kid skipping grades in my particular class set, so no one was really social?" boys. Girls. Didn't matter?

"I had Braig." Dilan admits, "We've always been good friends. It was still pretty rough until girls started noticing me."

"I had other stuff to keep me occupied." she admitted. "I'm glad you had someone though. Looking back I can see how it'd have made things easier." and honestly, she could.

She was pretty good at admitting her flaws to herself. "So when did girls start noticing you?" she grinned.

"Rose May." Dilan says with nostalgia, "She was thirteen, I was twelve. It worked out, since I was above her in school. I was, alas, cute."

She's seen the pictures. She knows it's true.

She let out a low whistle and grinned "You started early." she noted teasingly. "Not that I blame you. If you have to be 'cute' you may as well. I'd have given my dad a heart attack if I tried any kind of dating at thirteen."

"Mom didn't care." Dilan says with a shrug, "It was all innocent stuff, lots of figuring out things to do with the mess that was my hair - Braig ended up dreading it the first time, actually - watching films, stuff like that."

"Dad still would have lost it. Innocent or no." she chuckled "Once he got his head on straight he worried a lot. Besides, life failed me there. No one remotely attractive at my schools, unless you're into the football type." it'd been a pity really.

"College had more options. Hmmm, so you've had the dread locks since you were a kid?"

"I played chess." Dilan says with a shrug, "Yeah, since about thirteen. I have unfortunately - well, if I was human you'd say African hair. Not being human, pretty much imagine the same stuff in the texture of a coarse-furred cat, only long."
