The bar brawl was magnificent. It spread from the original bar (Dilan isn't sure which one that was) to three or four others, going in and out of them into something not quite a riot but not exactly not. Dilan got involved in the second bar on the trip, but managed to hold his own until the cops got there.

And he very politely sat down with his hands behind his head waiting for them to get around to him. Someone with that much facial metal (eyebrow, lip, nose), that hair, and that size tends to ping the combatant radar of everyone. Ever.

"Eh, a few more days I'm sure you'd have gotten around to the plumbing aspects..." she teased. "Don't worry about the pictures, I'm just really amused you didn't keep one shot for yourself." it was sweet, really.

Still. A hell of a piece of work.

And now...a question about something that bothered her. She flipped to the most current pictures and tilted the book toward him "I skimmed the police reports, but didn't read them entire before we interviewed you. Braig lost an eye and you took a knife..." the scars. She knew scars like that. "How close was it for both of you?" she was a cop. These things mattered.

Dilan glances down and then shrugs, "Not to sound flippant, but which time?"

"Well, considering you can only really lose an eye once..." usually "I'll assume you meant the 'taking a knife' comment." she sighed, fingers ghosting over the picture again "This one. Went too damn deep to heal any cleaner." a few inches higher or lower and it'd have been a disability for life, if not death. At least, in the force.

"I've almost died a handful of times. He's walked the edge a handful more." Dilan says with a shrug, "It doesn't actually bug me."

"Fair enough." she grinned, closing the book and passing it back. She'd had the important question and the frivolous question answered. Everything in between was details he could offer or not.

"I don't really have any pictures of me anywhere after the age of five, but if you want to see them some time I'll find where I put them."

Dilan slips it back in his bag and pulls the cord for their stop, "If you'd like, sure!" he agrees, "But don't feel like you have to, alright?"

"Well, the offer relies on actually finding them, I haven't seen them since I moved into my apartment after college." she warned. Given access to so much history about Dilan? Well, it wasn't so much about obligation as...fairness.

"They're in a box. You want a pretty book I'll have to give you one of the spreads my Dad was contracted for." she laughed as she stood and shouldered her bag once more.

"I have no responsibility toward that book. Braig's mother comes over once a year and organizes everything we've taken that year, checks my health - she's into medical sciences - and gives us tickets to come out for Thanksgiving. His father comes a couple months before that to make sure that we haven't busted anything, checks Cat out, and reminds us to purchase extra socks for Christmas.

"We have it at the beach house most years, and before I get sick."

And after a minute he adds, "Braig's parents raised me, and while they are married they also know the value of time alone. So they have a weeks vacation without each other every year."

She'd...kind of figured out the raising portion, but it was nice to hear about a functional family. "They sound like good people." she admitted. "You don't get that often these days."

"So, they've you and Braig, who turned out Doctors. And they're med sciences and..veterinary medicine?" she hazarded from the Cat comment. "I'd be frightened of the mental capacity in the family if I hadn't already picked up on the 'good' part."

"Scientists, Aya. We're scientists. They also have doctorates, but calling someone doctor outside of the medical field gives totally the wrong impression. They've got me and Braig, who turned out scientists, following in their footsteps."

He really, really, really dislikes being cornered at parties while someone asks about their cold. And tends to respond with some variation on take your human problems to a human physician, if it isn't a multi-species pathogen it's out of my realm.

"Scientists" she agreed easily. She wouldn't make the mistake twice. "Give me advanced warning if you guys decide to go evil?" she teased.

"Thank you." he says with a nod, then laughs, "Evil is more work than it's worth, I'll stick with good. Good gets more fruit baskets."

"Well, good gets more 'fear-free' fruit baskets." she agreed. "Though I hear you get a death ray kit and a volcano lair when you're officially evil." she grinned and almost skipped down the bus steps.

"The boys in the precinct are very taken by the idea, sadly, they're mainly minion material at the moment..."

"I'd rather have a fruit basket." Dilan insists, "Fruit is yummy, and volcanos are really rather dangerous."

"Right, so I get to cross volcanoes off the gift lists..." she teased happily.

"Hmm..." she paused at the edge of the park and peered at the lingering throngs of people "Okay, I was right about the art show?"

"So you do!" Dilan agrees with a laugh, "And so you were. Want to look for anything specific while it wraps up?"

"I don't really need anything specific?" she admitted. Her walls were nice the way they were? "Though if this is an Art and crafts show...maybe a heavy quilt for winter if you see one?" she couldn't see over enough of the people to get even a glimpse of the booths really.

"How about you, anything to keep an eye out for?" he asked as she held out her arm in offer this time.

"I have no taste." Dilan says cheerfully, "So if you see something you think would suit me, let me know. Oh, quilts."

He very cheerfully plows a straight line toward the quilts. He's big enough and metal studded enough that people get out of his way before he bumps them.

She meeped cheerfully as he started through the crowd and it almost seemed natural grab the back of his shirt and therefore stay in his wake. "Pictures aside, Dilan, I'm not sure I know enough about you yet to even begin to think about what suits you..." she admitted to his back.

...didn't mean she wasn't looking around though!

"How would you describe yourself?" she asked curiously once they were safely through the crowd and planted before the quilt stand.

Mmmm, blankets. Yep, she was petty one or two of them just to feel the contrasting fabrics. Now she just had to hope they had a winter weight one in tolerable colors!

He considers it for a while while she goes over the quilts, "Surprisingly Zen. I have a good life, with people I love in it. I have a job that I adore, even if it's got some annoying bits. I've got health, freedom, and a comfortable buffer against poverty."

"Yep, it does sound like you've got the zen thing pegged." she admitted, flashing a smile up at him. "I know an instructor who'd cry if he met you. He swears up and down no American can even approach a Zen state..." then again, said instructor really dealt with the lower end of society, so...

"Hey, Dilan?" she asked, drawing her fingers back from the quilts "Are there any particular fabric combinations you can't handle?" she didn't want to drape something on her couch if it was going to set a guests teeth on edge...

"If it helps, my father was from the other continent." Dilan points out, shrugging. He think looks over everything, "I don't like corduroy much, the sound of it gets stuck in my head and I hear the whish-whish-whish for hours. Other than that I'm cool."

"No, I'm pretty sure you're still American in his eyes, but it might be a mild consolation?" she chuckled.

Right, well, the 'no corduroy' thing narrowed her choices further. She settled for a heavy, heavy blanket in baby blue and white. It took her a moment to fill out the necessary delivery info, but not overly long? "It's going on my couch." she explained to Dilan over her shoulder "Public location number one in my place. Didn't want it to bother you."
